Anyone put anything lively in a RRC ?
Discussion
I've seen a V12 Aston Martin engine in a 2 door Range Rover, it was at the Game Fair last year. By a company called Bishops Heritage IIRC.
I've also heard of someone putting the JLR 5.0 Supercharged engine in one, and a BMW V12 from memory. I'll see if I can find anything in more detail. If either of those will fit in, the world is your oyster. How about a Chevy 5.7 as per the contemporary Overfinch?

Yep thinking another rover v8 will be the best call, just seems a shame to put another 3.9 in when a 4.8 is circa £1.5k more.
Going to keep original engine if it's ever sold on so it can go back to matching numbers.
We have lots of cars and a defender 50th keeps the RRC company.
We have had all the range rovers including the new one and one sport which we didn't really like.
Do a fair few miles so a fast Audi is much nicer than our old L405.

I have had a drive in a Overfinch 570 which is the Chevy 5.7 lite engine . That was quite lively. V8 developments will do you a 5.4 Rover V8 for about £7K which they claim is 400bhp.
I'm running a 5.7 chevy with a pair of T34 turbos for good measure. Very lively is how i would describe it!phib said:
I know the right answer is probably the 3.9 but it just seems such a shame not to update a bit !
I always wanted a TVR 5.0 in a RRC or defender ... Until I realised the torque curve was all wrong !!

I've got a 6.3 Overfinch classic and a 4.9 Defender (auto)I always wanted a TVR 5.0 in a RRC or defender ... Until I realised the torque curve was all wrong !!

The Overfinch is possibly the most frightening thing I have driven apart from, perhaps, a Sagaris with a quicker differential.
I absolutely love it and would have no hesitation in recommending a Classic with a bit more power.
The defender is reasonable and can now easily keep up with normal traffic around it.

If you want to know if a 4.6/5.0 TVR spec RV8 can be made to behave as you want in a RRC have a chat with Dom at Powers performance http://www.powersperformance.co.uk/Phib
If it can be done to suit the driving characteristics you want he will know and let you know the cost

Wow serious stuff !! Is the overfinch the green LWB one ? The Overfinch is possibly the most frightening thing I have driven apart from, perhaps, a Sagaris with a quicker differential.

Hi the Overfinch is one of the very first they did - possibly number 1 customer car. It's a fairly standard looking four door classic with 1" larger wheels. Uprated suspension, brakes and the auto box when at the time the standard car was manual. Is it a rover engine in the defender ? Sorry for all the questions !

It was effectively just over 100% extra over the list price.
Defender is a John Eales Rover engine that had a manual box when I bought it. I put an auto in it and slightly detuned it. It is a great car for using round the lanes and pretty practical as the 90 is actually quite a small car.

Not sure on the details specifically, but my mate's dad had an old Range Rover with the diesel lump out of a Humvee. I think it was a 6.2-litre V8, if I remember rightly.
Fairly common conversion in the mid 90's. The US shipped a load of spare engines over when the Gulf war started. It was cheaper to flog them off as surplus rather than ship them back; particularly as the draw down of troops in Germany had started by then as well. The handling must have been ..... Interesting !!!
Think I have decided on an ACR 4.8i, gas flowed heads / BIg valve with a new Ecu.
And to keep the original matching number engine to one side once rebuilt.
Need to find someone to fit in the Berkshire area who I trust ! Had so many bad experiences !!

( I do however reserve the right to change my mind !!)
