Disco Sport discounts and delivery
Discussion
Mrs SB has her heart set on one of these, so I've been doing the usual 'due diligence' on autotrader, etc.
But the current state of the market is confusing the heck out of me - we've been offered a new build to our spec in under two months - with the ingenium engine - yet the tranche of 6/9-month old cars coming on the market now seem to be priced only marginally below - or in some cases, above - list price.
What's going on? Are there big discounts to be negotiated on used ones from main dealers?
Similarly, anyone have any experience of broker deals on these? I've seen a 'UK car broker' quoting about 2K off list, but I've no idea if they're kosher.

I ordered in late June for September delivery. I wanted an Ingenium and was prepared to wait. They offered me an HSE with the old Duratorq for list if I wanted one straight away.
It was 2K off if I ordered new plus a 5 year service package and far more attractive finance. When I say 2K off it was dressed up as a "contribution" or "incentive" or whatever.
I was only interested in the cost to change. The figures stacked up.
I notice my dealer has what looks like it's entire DS demo fleet up for sale for list or higher price - I guess that's because some have expensive options. Maybe it's just good old supply and demand? I've read of long delays in orders because they stopped production to re-tool the production lines for the new engines. Not everyone who buys a new car is into cars, they want one now, not in months time and they don't know or care about a new engine.
My guess is the older ones will be worth a lot less once there is a supply of new engine cars in the used system.....so perhaps December or next April/May quarter year/financial year end.
From the deal I got, not just discounts but part exchange on my late model Freelander servicing deal etc it's probably cheaper to buy new and wait than get used tomorrow.
Of course if the Ingenium turns out to be a troublesome motor the old ones could hold their values.

FYI, the bit in bold is not true. Supply and demand is why people have to wait, as a result residuals are high. Lots of pre-orders to fulfil and sheer weight of worldwide orders mean a long lead time for delivery.wildcat45 said:
Cheers for the heads up
Seany. I guess from your location you'll be 'in the know'.
If you work in the priiduction line and on Aug 21 you've got a Kaicora Stone HSE with privacy glass to build chuck in a few extra extras for me. There's a pint in it for you! :-)
Haha, I don't build the cars but part of my job requires a vested interest into the going ons of the JLR factories in particular Halewood. Chances are I'll be in the factory on the 21st so your car might only be a couple of feet away as I saunter past, who knows? I'll be checking any Kaikoura Disco sports that I come across though! Did you see it?Dealer now being vague about delivery. Doesn't know if it's built or not. Now looking at "around" Sept 18

I didn't end up in the factory that day, so never got a chance!Dealer now being vague about delivery. Doesn't know if it's built or not. Now looking at "around" Sept 18
The Sept 18th date from what I hear is about right for delivery if a car was built on the 21st August. As soon as it's built, it stays at the plant (usually only for 24hrs) until there's transport for it to be took down to a central receiving area in the midlands. From there once its gone through the processes (whatever they do there) it will make its way to your dealer with a few other cars that may be from the other factories. This takes from what I understand around 3 weeks or so to work through the sheer number of cars, so don't despair.
I've noticed from the Land Rover web site that they will be supplying 400 Disco Sports for the rugby World Cup, presumably these will then be shifted through the dealers as used cars like BMW did after the Olympics. I might wait til after October to see if there are many used ones about.
Test drove a DS today with the new Ingenium engine. Certainly smoother, and a fair bit less vocal at higher revs, but didn't feel as gutsy as the 2.2. MPG hovering around the 38 mark for the test drive (A roads and B roads), so a good bit better than previously.
Currently undecided between this and an Evoque. Wife prefers the Evoque unsurprisingly.

It's just too small for us. Rumours of an XL version. If true we could be interested in a couple of years if we decide to swap the DS. Currently undecided between this and an Evoque. Wife prefers the Evoque unsurprisingly.
Do you know the Evoque is due a facelift? I was in my dealer today and they all looked the same as before but it might be worth checking to see if it's out yet or when it's expected.

I wonder if Evoque sales have been dented by the DS? There must be a few people like me who would have bought one but who wanted extra space.
I'm hoping to be in the new car inside a fortnight.
Assuming it's not one of these....From the Daily Mail site.
