Hi all.

I have a FFRR 2010 and have recently been getting multiple error messages which first say "Warning Restricted Performance" and then "Active Stability Control Not Available" and then a number of other error messages in a cycle. I then have very strange and pretty non-existent throttle response.

This is becoming more frequent and tends to happen when I am doing anywhere above 40/50 miles an hour and go for some acceleration (for example to overtake). As you can imagine this is pretty disconcerting as it usually therefore happens on dual carriageways and main thoroughfares. The only way I've found to deal with it is to pull over and restart the car. When I do so it asks me to "reconfirm ride height" and then operates entirely normally.

This has started to become more frequent so I was wondering whether anyone else had this problem and could shed any light?

A brief Internet search suggests anything from a bad battery to a bad cable in the front left side (can't recall which cable now!) it is pretty noticeable however that it only seems to happen under hard acceleration and when the car is already doing say 40/50.

On a similar note, can anyone recommend a good independent in central London or greater London? I normally get my car looked at by Guy Salmon Sheffield where my parents are but don't particularly want to undertake the motorway journey back up north on the M1 with this sort of issue....

Any help or guidance massively appreciated!

Best

No idea, but your best bet is to absorb yourself in the below forum dedicated to the full-fat and ask the question.

I had this on a test drive of a 2012 model a few months ago, took it out, on a dual carriageway as you describe running at 40/50 mph then on acceleration trying to overtake (not good when you have committed yourself to overtake) ‘restricted Performance‘ the rather embarrassed main dealer sales guy sitting in with me, didn't know what the crack was but on return (at 30mph on a busy dual carriageway with hazards flashing and trade plates on) he still wanted to sell me/expected me to purchase the car!!! censored

Had this message pop up on a 2012 D4 HSE that we recently took on. Full LRSH, Approved Used etc etc.

Turned out to be the EGR had given up. New one installed under warranty and away we went.

Had this couple years back with my RRS turned out to be fuel filter! was not feeding enough fuel... Very annoying as car had ute rally just comeback from cam belt service. Dash lit up like an Xmas tree with errors. HDC went, active susspen gone, dropped itself into1st and would not accelerate out.

First time I took it to LR with issue they said ecu wasn't reading as a normal error so they just cleared the fault code.

So in my experience deffohave fuel filter checked and changed. Good luck

had this twice with my L405 so the problem has been carried forward onto later models?

on both occasions at just over 40mph - dash lit up like a christmas tree - restricted performance/no abs/no hdc etc

stopped car - restarted and all fine on both occasions

told main dealer and when in for yet more warranty work they 're flashed' software - seems to have worked as the problem has not recurred- yet

new problem now - just over six months since B service and only 6K miles and the car tells me 'service required' - wtf is going on?

My l405 has this and is down to some accident damage on one of the intercoolers feeding the turbo. These apparently kick in at around 2,000 rpm, so any pressure differential doesn't trigger until then. Turning off and back on just resets the sensor .. until the next time you put your foot down. Back to the garage tomorrow!

Take it to a dealer and get them to diagnose...

Here, you're going to get hundreds of different answers, opinions, etc... You could end up chasing your tail for months as there are so many sensors, variables, etc. The computer will tell you exactly what has caused the ECU to throw up a 'Restricted Performance' message.

Well that's no fun!

I was going to throw in doing a Hard Reset as my 2p worth...

I have an MY 11 vogue TDV8.

Mine did this too. take it to a dealer but be warned!

I went through all the forums and the answer to the loss of active stability control is usually a broken wire in the suspension control system in the passenger wheel arch / engine bay.

I told the main dealer that this was the case in over 99% of cases and that the factory was aware of this item as a failure. I booked it in on the agreed date. When i parked up they told me i was not booked in but had been booked in on the previous morning - which i highlighted as strange as the fault hadnt presented itself until the afternoon. They then said they had no slots to look at it, but that they would get to it during the day - no problem. I reminded them of the need to pick the car up in the evening to collect my kids etc and the assured me that this would be fine. Sceptically, i left the dealers.

They called me at 3:45 pm to advise that I would not be getting the car back that day and told me their technicians had spent over 2 hours trying to diagnose the fault, advised that i needed a full suspension stability control module that needed to be ordered and that the cost to fix it was going to be around 700 pounds fitted - and they needed to keep the car for the next 24 hours until the part arrived. I asked whether the damaged wire had been checked as this was the likely source of the fault. They adivsed that the fault was more serious and required the replacement module first then another check would be carried out once this had been fitted. I happened to drive past the dealership later that day and funnily enough the car was still in the same parking bay as it had been parked by me at 8am that morning. And so was the 5p piece i left on the tyre on the passenger side rear tyre.

Clearly i went berserk. Called Land rover and highlighted my disquiet. funnily enough, following 'technical advice' from the manufacturer, it turned out that there was a damaged wire in the passenger side front wheel arch, and that a new piece of wire needed to be added and a piece of shrink sealed rubber hose added.

This from a main dealer.

What was most hilarious is they called me after the car was returned to ask if there was any reason why I wouldn't response to a survey land rover to say i was completely satisfied by the service i received. When i recounted the story, the lady hung up and i have never received the survey....

Anyway, rant over - its probably a damaged wire which should cost no more than a few quid to fix.

Cheers

What a terrible experience, good idea with the 5p to make sure.

This is why I only buy with warranty now as otherwise I'd constantly be worried something funny was going on.

I absolutely agree. Mine was fully warrantied up by Land Rover until last December.

Epic car though.
