Answers added to your quote above.

I have a D4 Commercial and will be ordering another one in December as the dealers are pretty, well fairly, well they think there won't be a D5 commercial, which I am pretty sure there won't be either.

New Disco 5 is rumored to be appearing next year or officially released next year and maybe sales start at the end of 2016. Will be loosely based on the Discovery Vision concept from last year.

Surely you will be able to pull up the spec sheet and see the difference between the XS and the HSE?

Whilst I look forward to the the D5, I am more interested in the Defender replacement. They keep pushing it back. LR are now saying 2017!

If you want to know what it will look like, just park up an Evoque, a whatever-they-call-the-Freelander-now, an RRS and an L405 in a row, squint slightly about halfway along the row and there you'll have it!

and given current build and delivery wait times, don't expect to actually have one until sometime in 2018.

Tough call. I upgraded last year from a D3 SE to a D4 HSE and can't believe how much better the car is even though it looks 90% the same. I tried the XS/SE seats but did not find them comfy whereas the HSE ones are great. Love the sunroof too.

As for the D5, I have been told late 2016 launch but the problem these days is that cars launch at least six months before you can get one even if you are at the front of the queue. Whether you wait also depends on the features you want. I like the stepped roof, full sized 3rd row chairs and massive boot, especially with dog guard in place. It also seems to be well accepted as a product in most socio/economic environments; ie you can park it is places you would not leave a RR. If the D5 loses some of this versatility then it will be a poor replacement IMHO.

I've been waiting on the Discovery '5' for ages. As much as I like the current Disocvery, it's just absolutely ancient underneath now and really is due for replacement. I did a Solihull factory tour a couple of months back and seeing it being built alongside the aluminium L405 and L494 didn't do it any favours when you see how different they are.

Everyone's guessing this new Discovery will be based on the same underpinnings as the Range Rovers, which sounds very sensible, but the lack of any info is weird! I've seen absolutely zero in terms of spy shots etc. Either Land Rover are doing an excellent job of hiding it all or I'm in for a longer wait that I expected!

I just cannot comprehend this kind of mentality. So you are waiting for a car that you have no idea what it looks like, how it drives, it's spec or it's price.

Doesn't that seem a rather daft thing to be doing?

Wow that truly is an amazingly ignorant, sorry arrogant opinion to have.

Why? rolleyes

I know the T5 platform is heavy but the D4 is still a cracking car to drive. IMO - It's also still one of the best off-road. What's wrong with buying a D4 now and simply waiting until the D5 is available (assuming it will be).

As for spy shots, LR have recently been doing a good job of managing to keep things under wraps. wink

rofl Calm down, it's only a car. wink

To me it makes sense - rather than buying a D4 now and then swapping it for a D5 when it's out, I've bought a Defender to get it out of my system whilst I wait. This should lose less money and is quite excellent fun! It's also unlikely that Land Rover are going to make a brand new car worse in any one area (other than cost) than one that's essentially been available since 2004.

It is true that the current D4 is still a great car, mind.

I'm actually waiting for the announcement so I can bag a bargain D4. Not sure why but I expect I won't be a fan of the D5 having had a poke around the Disco Sport the other day. Really regret selling the D4 last year but needed to put the funds into a house move frown

Also don't understand this mentality. Sounds like you only bought it, because all the cool kids told you too.

Owning a defender for a Pistonhead is one of those things you just have to do at some stage in your life. Im sure anyone who has owned one did so and enjoyed it faults and all. It puts a smile on your face.

I should image most on here only own them as they are trendy fashion items these days. And then simply moan about their design or try and turn it into a Discovery. Completely missing the point of a Defender.

Not at all. It's just one of those vehicles that I wanted to own at some point in my life. My little boy adores it too, which is nice.

But yeah, it is also very cool. biggrin

How can you make a judgement on the D5 by looking round the Disco Sport which is the Freelander replacement??

The only hint we have seen is Discovery Vision concept, which was released 18 months ago.

I expect the Disco 5 will be their ultimate all rounder. I'm more concerned that we have only seen one Defender replacement concept frown

Mid next year, looks very similar to the vision concept. Disco Sport + 20% bigger.

2 new 'Special' Edition Disco 4's added to the range. Available from next year.

Signs that the Disco 5 is due next year at some point.
