Need some advice for tuning a 3.9 to get more power and torque.

Myself and 2 mates have bought a trial car with a 3.9 v8. It's stock and ripe for some mods to get a bit more out of it.

What's the best cam to get good power out of it, want this to sing as i'm going to give this car death.. hehe
Plus headwork, what's good and what's not?

( it's not my wallet that is paying for the tuning so i want to go silly with it... )

It's a good question. A lot of PH knowledge on what cams work for these engines but nearly all for lighter road/track cars and obviously it's a very different story for our vans where you really want to be making sure you've got the optimum torque in the right places.

When I was looking at doing work on an RV8 for a Rangie the only well regarded builders who instantly appreciated what was needed were John Eales and Rob at V8D.

It's a genuine Tomcat he's got. Built in the 90s, been standing for a while but it's solid and needs freshening up.

The engine wasn't in the car, it had a 4.6 fitted at some point.
The 3.9 is gubbed, won't turn over by hand, plugs aren't in right, his bore cam has been down into the engine and what he can see is a lot of very rusty Pistons.

Typical.

However, I have managed to get a lead to a 3.5 block with heads.
No pumps, carbs etc. Do the pumps etc from the 3.9 fit the 3.5 if they are good?

Used to working on 2/300tdi and tdv6 engines but never done v8 stuff so it's a stab in the dark.

I have a 3.9 sitting in a Disco that is only going to be used for its mechanicals back from the engine. It's done about 130k but is actually lovely.

Will the engine be complete?
With pumps etc attached?

What you thinking price wise?

You can have pretty much everything under the bonnet as a pull out. I haven't given much thought to price but it's in the Cotswolds so might be a bit of a slog to come and remove having just looked at where you're based?
