Looking to buy a new snorkel for my Defender in the next month or so.. wondering if there's any opinions on whether mantec or safari are best?

I've had the Safari and my father-in-law has the Mantec (the 'plastic jobby' one) on his, and I think in hindsight I'd have bought a Mantec. Having said that, I was perfectly happy with mine, just the mounting looked slightly better quality on the Mantec I thought. And the 'scoop' at the top looks to me less likely to swallow water, but then if you're THAT deep you've probably got bigger problems! wink

Best at what? Do you need one?

What are you going to use it for??

However, before we proceed... A quick correction: It's not a snorkel, it's a 'Raised air intake'.

The raised air intake is designed for dusty conditions, not for driving through deep water. For deep water there are a number of other considerations:

  • Axle, gearbox & engine breathers.
  • Electrical systems.
  • Buoyancy
Buoyancy is a critical one as people die, fording rivers and flood waters, thinking their 4x4 is invincible now they have a 'Snorkel' fitted!!

Just saying...

Thanks for your advice! Was this the one http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/accessories/mante... Think i'm going to give that a go, as i've heard good things on other review sites too.

So do you need one? If not and it's only for looks, does it really matter how they review?

Regardless of looks or use.
Surely it's better to get the best fitting and well made snorkel.

I've put a safari one on my D3, I don't need one but I want one. Plus Flatdog4x4 were doing a sale on them so was ideal.

Compared to the cheap no name model on a friends D3. The safari fits far better on the wing, only 4 of his 5 fixings go through the wing to be bolted up. I had no issues with the 5 on mine.
The upper supports fit better as well as the fitting instructions being more clear.

Long after the sweetness of price has gone, quality remains.
