Hilarious (or pathetic) comments by people with no ownership experience of upgrades or even the same car by people who could start a fight in an empty room !!

Pistonheads ... small mindedness matters !!

'old on lads, I've had an idea.....

For what it's worth, the OP never mentioned anything about "fast road upgrades" and doesn't appear to want or need them, and isn't punting a 4.0 V8 up and down mountains everyday, so bashing on about how essential a brake upgrade is and then trying to belittle those who don't tag it with quite so much importance is a little blinkered, wouldn't you say?
Defenders can be upgraded to be quieter, (a bit) more comfy and slightly brisker but if it's perceived as boringly sluggish and disappoints because it doesn't stop in its own length then you've probably bought the wrong type of car (as is so often suggested in any "upgrade" thread)

Should be for the most part.

That said I personally find the older seats really comfy. My Uncle has 2 Puma's. A new 65 plate one. The seats in that are lovely. And an older one that is just over 3 years old. I find those seats quite uncomfortable by comparison.

Fronts, yes. Rears, no.
The forward-facing rear seats in later Defenders required a rejigging of the wheel arch boxes and tub floor to give sufficient headroom.

So am I ok for the front and first row, but keep the side facing rears

Sorry, wasn't clear. On a 110 the front and second row are the same. It's the forward facing rear seats that replaced the old inward facing seats in the load area that aren't cross-compatible. To get the headroom required for thfroward-facing seats, the wheel arch box has a chamfered edge to it, so the seats sit lower overall whether stowed or deployed.
There have been a couple of attempts somewhere on the net of modifying an old squared-edged rear tub to take new seats but there's a bit more to it than just attacking it with an angle grinder.
It's the bit where those little triangular brackets mount on the top of the wheel arch boxes that's lower on a Puma than a TD5.

Cheers, ideal for what I have won and I'll either buy the side facing seats to match or get mine covered.

Project 110 is underway smile

Collected seats today. The brackets appear to be different for the first row with totally different mounting brackets and a floor mounted catch as well as the seat back catch.

Anyone know what part numbers i'll need to buy, as its snowing and i'm southern i wont spend too much time looking today, but also seems the front brackets are in different places.

Seats are from a 2013, mine is a 2002

Interesting thread chaps!

I have a 30 year old 110 with drums on the back and no ABS and it stops on a sixpence. The limiting factor is typically the tyres, and a big heavy vehicle way up in the air on big boingy springs. And it also stops a hell of a lot better than my old Disco 1 (discs all round). I think LRM said the other month in a buying guide "Defender brakes should impress. If they don't, there's something wrong with them."

OK mines only a 200Tdi but to be honest if I was ever starting to cook brakes on the road I'm probably just driving too fast in the wrong car that day!

try the defender2 forum if you want serious advice about upgrading a defender..

A lot of people say it's silly lowering them, 18" wheels etc... its one of them things, until you've been in one you won't understand it.

if i listed the upgrades mine has you wouldn't believe it...

Depends what you want to do with them though.

This is the sort of thing I use them for:

This is my current project vehicle.
