The wineing fuel pump may have been the injector copper rings and O rings needing replacing.

I had a lovely Land Rover Discovery TD5 with split rims (see video). It ran lovely until one day the engine ran on while the ex was driving it along a busy A road in Warwickshire. As a result, a member of the public telephoned the fire brigade who attended. The car had a manual gearbox and so the car was stalled to prevent further damage. The cylinder head was cracked, and the car was let go without the necessary repair being completed. A fantastic looking car, which I wish I had today, The car was exported to France where it was repaired and used as part of a classic car / gearbox repairing company censored

Well, I gave up on the Discovery idea after all that. The ones I looked at were either rough or somewhat overpriced.

My solution was to keep my trusty old MK3 Mondeo estate and get a Series 3 109 Land Rover. So far we have been using this combination successfully. The Landy is used at weekends and the Mondeo for school runs, commutes and long distance stuff. The 109 is a soft top which is great in the summer especially as we live near the beach.

I still like the idea of a Discovery but the 109 is more "me". Shame about the 14 mpg though...:-)

The Disco 2 is so old now that the maintenance on an individual car is going to have a much greater bearing on its reliability that the inherent reliability of the car.

I had a TD5 until about 15 years ago, and really loved it, but the XC90 I replaced it with was like jumping 3 decades into the future.
