Morning all,
First foray in to the LR thread so thought I'd introduce myself. Just bought a 2003 TD5 Defender XS having previously had a series III which my wife refused to drive (she's so fussy, why do you need brakes, power steering and an exhaust system that doesn't pump fumes into the cabin?). Any this is the result of a bit of tyre kicking, it has LED lights apart from Headlamps, a recent full new Exmoor Trim leather interior (2x heated front, 4x rear drop down) and sits on RVS Terafirma wheels with silly big 285/175/R16s.
There is a lot of rust to smaller components, all bolts on the seat box, the rear door strip, the mudflap brackets, the side steps, the hinges on the front vents, the door hinges, the rear chassis cross member and pretty much every nut or bolt has got oxidisation - I assume because its previous owner was down on the beach. Anyway all pointers gratefully recieved and I will doubtless be back for advice once my order from Paddock Spares arrives to begin the rejuvenation process...

Post up a pic of the cross member rust. My guess is it's just surface rust. Buy your self some buzzweld treatment and do it your self.

My guess is the owner didn't live by the sea and it will just be typical Land Rover low quality components. Buy galavanised or stainless equivalents of each bolt and replace.
