Hi all,

Not a big poster, but thinking of changing my Audi A4 30tdi Avant for a Discovery Sport.

Seen one at local county show, and wife likes it and seems to fit our requirements, but can't find any reports/reviews on here. Any PHers got anything to say about them?- good or bad!

Don't need 7 seats, but do need tow bar and auto, which seem to be incompatible; would be looking at used rather than new, unless stinking deal.

Any thoughts would be gratefully received

Thanks in advance

A fellow E-Type owner and Pal of mine bought one 12 months ago and hates it, like myself he was a serial buyer of Jap Crap as daily drivers so was unfamiliar with bi-weekly dealer visits and the prolonged use of courtesy cars. I believe many of the issues he had have now settled down but the cars life with him is limited . They look nice.....

I went to buy one when they were launched as seemed to be very interesting on paper. After a test drive I went and bought a RRS. End of story. smile

I have an B8 S4 Avant, and Mrs SB has a Disco Sport with the 2L Ingenium engine.

The good:
Loads of space in the Disco, Rear seats in A4 is very cramped by comparison.
Handling much improved and more car-like compared to the Mk2 Freelander.
SE Tech 'trim level' has most of the toys you'll need.
Good dealership experience
Service Pack (or whatever it's called) includes free Adblue topups.

The bad:
Fuel consumption not great. Low 30's is all we see.
Adblue tank reduces fuel tank size, so range is compromised.
Performance is blunted due to weight/height/frontal area, and reduced engine size (2L vs 2.2). The A4 will feel like a Caterham by comparison.
Seats: I'm 6'3", and find it almost impossible to get a driving position that allows me to drive for more than an hour without experiencing serious discomfort. I've *never* had this issue with any other car. It seems to be a combination of the pedal positions and a fixed angle on the seat squab, even with the electric seats. Passenger side isn't much better, as the footwell space seems cramped.
Tailgate: doesn't really open high enough for me.
Recalls: We've had one recall done (EGR wiring??), and it's been back to the dealer for tailgate strut and parking camera replacement. Both seem to be 'known issues'.
DPF Regen smells: In the first few thousand miles, DPF regens were unbelievably smelly. Burning oil smells all through the cabin. Seems to be fixed now.
Satnav: Satnav is atrocious. Guaranteed to take you down the narrowest single-track roads it can find, even when "fastest route" is selected.
Touchscreen UI: I don't like them!

That's about it. Despite the negatives above, Mrs SB loves it.

Thanks Guys

Obviously a mixed bag, but fuel range and consumption will be a big negative for us.

And it's a 80+ mile round trip to the dealer, which won't help if there are lots of issues.

But, my wife seems to like it, which is an achievement as she really isn't into cars!!

Thanks again

PS just priced a F Pace - oh my god!!

Great car, poorly executed (cheaply done).

Had one of the first cars, overall nice product, handles well BUT as has been mentioned, satnav horredous, seat base too hard and uncomfortable, poor fuel consumption, crap auto box settings, High price tag, cheap interior. Build issues sent it back.

Our Freelander 2 was better than the DS....listen up LR......

That is the Land Rover way wink A friend of mine rocked up in his DS the other day. How they are still selling that satnav is beyond me frown

Hes had a few issues with his. Think the camera was one and the parking brake.

I think it was on here that someone recently flagged up there's a manufacturing problem that produces a rattle in the B posts and needs the car tearing apart and rewelding to fix properly.

Allegedly LandRover still make the car the same way despite this issue.

How do they get it that bad? OK, I know VW cheat a bit, but Mrs S's DSG 4Motion Tiguan's spreadsheeted MPG is 38MPG and its longest journey in her hands is about 3 miles. If I use it I can get 45 on the computer no problem and can nudge 50MPG on a run. This is newish EA288 EU6 TDi engine, with Ad Blue.

A mate has one of the last Freelander's and he said it does 18MPG around town. yikes

As with any car, it's largely dependent on the driving. We do mostly 5-20 mile trips on hilly B roads, which is why it's poor.

Mrs SB gets about 33MPG. For comparison her FL2 managed about 31, and my S4 about 26, all with similar use patterns - except the S4 gets booted more smile

We've had 2.2 HSE auto for 15 months and 23k miles. Only one return to the dealer, apart from a service to get a fix on the sat nav. In general we're very pleased with the car although as with anything there are always areas for improvement. We drive to Geneva 3 or 4 times a year and it's ideal for this journey, loads passenger and luggage room, quite and easily maintains the 130 kph limit although this does hit fuel consumption where it drops to 33/34 mpg. Go onto to any one mark forum and you will only get ptthe complainers, those that are happy don't in general post very much. Have to agree that a RRS is a great car but not at a premium of nearly £30 k very the DS.

Personally i dont think you will get a great deal on a new one due to a 3 months waiting list.

Anyhow ive had mine since november a 2.0 HSE manual, you can have a tow bar with any car setup.

Mine has been ok apart from needing a new turbo at 3000 miles.

Its great to drive and will cope with anything you want to throw at it.

Dont worry about the bad press as all the bad stories on any cars always surface but the good press etc never surfaces.

Take a few out for a test drive and see what suits you best, from a 2.2 or 2.0 auto or manual, 150bhp or 180bhp, 5 seats or 7 seats etc the combinations are endless

Bought my wife one of the first cars (non-Ingenium) in HSE trim last year. She loves it, not too big not too small, only had to get the reverse camera replaced so far. Very capable off-road too (and that's coming from someone used to driving Landcruisers in Kenya!).

The only negatives so far are the 3rd row fold down seats (the only people who can really be confortable back there are really little ones) and the average fuel consumption (30-35mpg).

Overall great package.

I've had my Ingenium almost a year now and I love it.

The navigation was rubbish but I found out about a software update and my dealer installed it. It's not brilliant but I've never had an in built Nav that is.

I quite like the Ingenium engine. I don't like diesels but this makes a nice low noise at certain speeds.

The interior space is fantastic. Just right for us, though I'd server have had even more storage than the seven seats. I sat in the middle row seats on a long journey and it was very comfortable. Up front, I have no issues though the seats are not as cosseting as you find in an Evoque.

Bad points:

Diesel. I wanted a petrol and they don't sell them in the UK.
Gearbox. I think it has too many gears. I did have a minor electronic fault on mine.
Interior. I loved the "Little L322" feel of my 2013 Freelander. The DS is fine but not as special.

Mine is in HSE trim but LR down specc'd the trim level from the Freelander. No memory seats and no heated steering wheel. Not a deal breaker, but little luxury touches I miss.

Would I buy another one?

Yes, like a shot.

Would I consider anything else?

I'm afraid I'm a Land Rover Fanboy, that said the F-Pace I had a sniff around looks promising. Sadly 40ishK probably wouldn't get me one with comparable specification to my DS

As for buying used, I'd street clear of the pre September 2015 cars. The 2.2 Duratorqu models. Great engine but they seem to be the ones with the most build quality issues. Also consider incentives. When I was buying it was made clear that buying new with a 5 year service pack which is transferable made buying used less attractive.

Do you have a version number for that? Ours is an identical age, so maybe that's what we need to get the routing improved!

I don't. I found out about the update on a Discovery Sport forum.

Our car had no option to navigate to a place without an address or post code. Really frustrating on our first trip away to Scotland and you couldn't input something simple like the name of the village we were staying in.

I'll see if there is an "engineering" type of page on the system. If I can find it and the info is there I'll let you know.

I think it's Settings->Navigation->System Info or similar. Ours says 9.12.38.518116

I am Testing a DS next week.
I took the Mercedes GLC out this week but its too small and the ride was crashy, may have been the huge gangster rims, but its not for me.

I was trying to get a Sport or new Disco but the Tax liability is eye watering.
