I looked at a GLC, Q5 and X3 / X4 - all of the interiors were superior but none drive as well or were genuinely capable off road... as well, none had 7 seats.

I thought I'd like the GLC but didn't. Google GLC crabbing - and you'll see the right hand drive GLC's have issues.

With the Dicovery sport; as I've said before; I gave mine back due to it suffering the dreaded 'b pillar rattle'. Again, google it and be astonished!

The DS could be a great car, but it was poorly executed. I really do see the huge step down from the 'Ford' developed models. (FFRR, RRS, Evouque) to the much more cost conscious TATA stuff, (DS, F-Pace, Velar, XE, XF) #yuk

Not liking the future of this group as a long term JLR customer, it seems I am of no interest to the company as they chase volume....

I have had mine since April 28th
Covered 7620 miles
Its a good motorway car
Averaging around 37mpg adblu is a pain to fill but got 10L in so they don't fill them on build.
Gearbox is sluggish in town but soon learn to have it in the right gear to crack on if needed.
Great space inside (only ever going to be 5 seater)

So far so good.

Yeah I've read about both those issues. I don't like the look of the GLC, X3 or Q5, so not going there. Not much else to consider really, which is why I'll probably take a chance on the DS. It drives well for sure and I'm okay with the slightly minimalist interior. Hope the B pillar rattle isn't too bad though!

Yes reports are that its anything between 1 in 5 to 1 in 9 affected. As well for anyone reading this; it seems to occur more at high temps so if you buy on a hot day and cannot hear it... you should be fine.

I'm still looking / thinking... even though it's been a while. I have other vehicles so the DS was to fulfil a specific purpose. My partner has an Evoque ingenium and I still like the Land Rover service / Land Rover assist; it's good peace of mind. In all honesty; there's a real gap in the market; I looked at the new X-Trail but I hear the auto boxes suffer. But for a compact 7 seater - there's not many choices.

Why people can't make cars that just work and are built correctly; I don't know. We have an old RAV4 that we bought in France; it lives there and is used as our hack for when we're in France; it has monumental mileage on the clock... but everything just works - every switch, every gadget, every engine part. I love it and have a closer connection to that car as a result. Cars now certainly feel more disposable. A friend of mine considers cars with more than 30,000 miles, as passed it frown

To fulfil the DS role, I'll be either risking another DS, looking at the new, larger engine X-Trail, or just going the whole hog and getting a Toyota Land Cruiser of some sort; I think that they're one of the few modern vehicles that are made with the philosophy of longevity and durability in mind. From the Middle East to the Alps; Land Cruisers seem to be held in such high regard... I don't think it'll drive like a DS though wobble

Have you looked at Skoda Kodiaq? The VW version, Tiguan Allspace, can't be far away now.

My missus has one of the last of the old Tiguans and I've been very impressed with it, however some owners who've switched to the new one say it doesn't have quite the same feeling of quality and robustness as the old model.

A friend of mine has rejected two Discovery Sports due to them being unable to cure the B Pillar rattle.

He's ended up buying a used discovery 3

Good to know that Land Rover have cracked their issues with electrical gremlins, this was the display in the Disco Sport I was driving yesterday, on the hottest day of the year:

The air con was still working so that was a bonus

Yes - I refused to even let them fix it... have you heard what the final fix process entails?! It's not something I could have agreed to on a 40 grand car. I just said no way. Sorry to hear your friend got unlucky twice!

A Disco 3 though... isn't that just asking for more trouble!

My Aircon died on Saturday
Fixed itself by Monday morning.
Love the LR way of life.

Evening All

Just thought i'd post my first couple of impressions having had a loaner for 48 hours.

I am in need of a bigger car, 3 kids and all that and the Sport ticks all the boxes (on the internet and the wife!) so took advantage of having one through my work company car "test", id never have one as a company car as the BIK is crazy but can opt out in December if i can find a good enough deal.

First impressions are that it feels much bigger than it looks, the first drive out and I hated it, moist likely because I was driving it like I would my Audi or Cupra so felt very strange and wallowy, once I adapted the driving style I loved it, really nice driving position and has sold me on a SUV type car next.

Model I had was a SE Tech, had some options but i'm not up with LR products so wasn't sure exactly what was added, from what I could see, full leather and bigger HSE wheels in grey.

Personal opinions were that it had too many gears, it was always changing gear and when pulling away it always seem to be searching for the correct gear, i'm used to a DSG box but thought this would be compatible although it does have 3 more cogs!

Sat Nav was very annoying, not as polished as the VW/Audi set up I've been used to, radio would cut out completely and the voice sounded very strange

Fuel consumption was awful, steady driving and I got between 30 and 35

Would I have one?.... Yes absolutely, would like a HSE spec, just need to see how I can make the car allowance work for one, Kids loved the 2 very back seats so middle row was free the whole 2 days.

Yes the MPG is quite poor. There'll be a setting for the radio cutting out so abruptly. The sat nav looks ok but doesn't work brilliantly; the directions it gives can be odd at times! SE Tech is the middle model and HSE, will get pano roof as standard, leather, and some other small bits as standard. It is a good car but not without its flaws.

"mpg is quite poor."
We have averaged 40.9mpg over 22k miles which I think is not bad for a 7 seat 4x4 and a lot of that is around town!
Also we are on the original tyres which will easily do another 10k miles if not more.

Same here. 20K+ miles and tyres still good. Will be replacing them before winter, though.

Satnav is almost unusably bad. Seems to have no comprehension of how slow you have to drive on the tiny country lanes it inevitably sends you down.

I find the seats most uncomfortable on long trips. As a passenger you can't put your foot flat at the end of the footwell because some plastic gubbins gets in the way, and the rake of the squab cant be adjusted (except on HSE models, I think)

Has anyone driven the new 240/290HP variants?

Gearbox. I think it has too many gears. I did have a minor electronic fault on mine.
Interior. I loved the "Little L322" feel of my 2013 Freelander. The DS is fine but not as special.
.
Little L322 feel? What the heck? The Freelander interior is nothing like the L322 interior. Freelander interior was still using parts from the Rover 800 in places!
