Is RRS TDV6 slow etc

It's not so much the 0-60 time that's the issue as the SDV6 really can shift surprisingly well for the weight of the car (0-40 is particularly quick). The problem, and I'm referring to the 8 speed gearbox in an SDV6 Disco, is that sometimes it just doesn't respond when you quickly put your foot down. I don't know if it's because it's trying to set off in second gear or if it's just turbo lag but it's genuinely something you need to be aware of when you're dealing with roundabouts. In my experience it's worst when rolling slowly forwards, from a standing start it isn't too bad. It's one of the very few downsides I've found with the car.
I have heard people say this. Still not sure it's really as big an issue as made out. I've driven TDV6 Disco3's and RRS's with the 2.7 and the 6 speed box. And while there is a trait here in a bit of lag/sluggishness, it was fairly easy to not notice at all, or drive around it and make it a non issue.300bhp/ton said:

It's a well documented issue affecting the car and it's dangerous and annoying. If you haven't driven the car then you don't know what you're talking about The 8 speed does have that lag issue.
A friend had a MY12 D4 8 speed for 4 years, it was always there, despite some trips back to the dealership for upgrades.
He would use the flappy paddles to change to 1st then set off.
The 6 speed doesn't have that issue. If you want it off the line quickly. Stick it in sand mode on the terrain response and floor it!

My wife doesn't notice and if you're going to wait for huge gaps in traffic then no, it's not a factor. But if you like to make decent progress and are used to cars that are quicker off the mark then it can catch you out. Trust me, it does!A.J.M said:

Soon as the Mrs is back from Monkey Music & Waitrose I'm off to try that out!A friend had a MY12 D4 8 speed for 4 years, it was always there, despite some trips back to the dealership for upgrades.

I avg 18-19mpg out of a V8 petrol, so paying £££ more to buy a higher mileage lower spec car to get 25mpg from a diesel when you only do 5-6K miles a years is not worth it. Thats about £400 a year difference. Fair enough if you are doing 20k miles a year out of your own pocket, you need a diesel.
So why not shop around, pick up a bargain petrol car because few people want them these days; enjoy a V8 before they are banned

A remapped FFRR TDV8 seems to be the answer given you are comfortable with remapping. I had a JE remapped 2007 TDV8 and it did around 30MPG on an A Road/Motorway commute (about 10% better MPG than standard). I also had a 4.4 TDV8 2011 JE remapped and that's as quick as the L405 4.4 SVD8.
The FFRR is easy to park even in a supermarket because it's easy to see all the corners unlike the RRS which falls away from view. It's virtually the same width as the RRS but much better packaged inside.
The FFRR is also a massive step up in terms of refinement from the Evoque, again based on the experience of owning one. The seats are 10x better than the RRS.
There is 800NM of torque with the JE remap - it just glides quickly down the road and the pick up from stationary is good

Really ? I didn't the Evoque 2.2 was a TDV6.
The TDV6 3.0 is being discussed in the context of whether it avoids the terrible pulling away delay / lag of the Evoque which everyone who has actually driven one agrees is pretty awful. I'm trying to ascertain from people who have driven the 3.0, whether it still has this issue as it looks on paper to have similar power and gearbox which seem the obvious culprits. I don't want that in my next car as it is dangerous.
Good comment above on the 4.4 V8, it appears from reading some other threads that this is actually more efficient than the 3.0TDV6, and remapped wd be a good step up from the Evoque too, always nice to upgrade. Maybe this is the answer, they also look good value what with a 2012 being purchasable for under £30k or a 2010 for £26k-£27k. I think I'd favor as new as possible.

The 3.0 TDV6 is fine with the six speed gearbox. It's the 8 speed SDV6 that has the issues. Just been to look at a few and all the baby stuff goes in the FFRR much more easily than the Sport, plus the inside is nicer too so that's decided. Think I will sidestep the issue of power by going for the 4.4 TDV8. Some cool features to look for such as deployable side steps, adaptive cruise, electrically adjustable + heated steering wheel!
