I am seriously considering buying a Defender 90 shortly. I need something rugged, although as it'll be an occasional vehicle I don't want to spend £20k+ on one. I notice the County hard tops are a lot cheaper than an XS etc. I will very occasionally need to transport both kids (short distances) - is it possible to fit the XS folding/forward facing rear seats in the hard top? As I say it would be for very occasional use but I don't like the idea of a sideways facing bench etc.

The rears take up a lot of space when not in use... It would also be worth checking out the legalities of retro-fitting, insurance, etc.

Thanks - I have thought about insurance/notifying DVLA etc. Might look into a 110 double cab too. I don't want to spend more than 14-15k ideally so that rules out a Puma XS 90 sadly. Seems I can get an 07-09 2.4 hard top or double cap within my budget.

If you want forward-facing rear seats in a Defender then a 110 or above is the only way.
All the attempts to put forward-facing seats in a 90 (even JLR's own effort) end up being a case of bashing a square peg in to a round hole. It just doesn't work.
