Just swopped my 48k mile nov 13 RRS dynamic for a nearly new Disco 4 Graphite and got £4k back smile

The interior of the Doscovery is 'lower rent' a tad but still nice enough. It's more spacious and rides nicer and more comfortable though I'm sure can't be hustled along as well but to be honest neither are sports cars.

My point is they are different cars and the price differential allowed for that, one had a choice; more utilitarian and functional or more luxurious and slightly more sporty. I feel the Disco 5 is a slightly cheaper RRS alternative (slightly being the key term with new price range) and a different car functionality wise over the Disco 5. I'm not sure how successful it will be?

It looks good but it doesn't look like a "Discovery" if that makes sense, too rounded now.
As said it'll probably be great but I can't see these being used in the same manner (that being said people said that about the Disco 4's)
I agree, I think the D3 and D4 have a sort of classic utilitarian elegantness to them which the 5 seems to lack, it doesn't seem to have quite pulled off its evolution as well as the FFRR and RRS did, although I'm sure it will be a really good and capable car.

we had a D3 and liked it inso much as it could get the 3 kids in car seats in. Sold that a few years back and again need to get a bigger car with 7 seats as kids legs are longer.

Cant afford a D5 had a drive in a D4 but yes the space is there the drive is still not very good in terms of wallow and hesitation pulling away. We lived with it with the D3 as well to be honest for 4 years but had hoped the D4 would be better. Did consider a new/prereg graphite D4 but they did not have elec memory seats which is a must have for us otherwise the price would have tempted us.

Anyhoo we also drove the new Volvo XC90 and new Audi Q7 - they were both light years ahead in driving on road terms and the space inside was also better with the flexability of seat movements. I would get another D4 but wife wont after having driven the XC90 and Q7 she just wont do it. I know the d4 is an old platform but I think with the D5 being £60k+ just nuts.

I think when the D5 prices come down ie car wow in a year or so it may be an option. At the moment a new Q7 is looking the best bet via car wow.

Apparently this was a common complaint and many of the latter ones were ordered with electric men seats as an extra, as mine was. They're out there if you look for them.

Interesting that you also mentioned hesitancy in pulling away whereas I don't feel that at all and to the contrary my Graphite feels a lot more sprightly than my previous RRS Dynamic?

Wife decided to go for a new Q7 in the end. I liked the D4 D3 etc but it was a step back for her in driving dynamics and as its her car then she has the final say in it. She had a D3 for 6 or so yrs I think which did us well but she wanted a more car like drive in the end.

Fair enough, different cars smile I'm enjoying the more 'utilitarian' Disco though to be fair it's quite refined and comfortable but definitely not as car like as a Q7 thumbup

More relevant to the thread I immediately decided to get a Disco 4 as soon as I saw the Disco 5 as I think the 4 is obviously the last of a certain breed.

yes the D5 appears to be quite a departure from the D4 utility as well as a big jump in price. I love the D3/4 shape think it is great and very practical inside and out. D5 looks like most other SUV's now tbh and is very upmarket move perhaps too upmarket/bling for the segment.

D5 has gone after the X5/Q7 market, presumably because JLR either have other plans for the more practical, muddy-booted D3/4/Shogun segment - or don't see a future for it.

That's fine but isn't that the bottom end RRS? That's the bit that confuses me.

I wonder if new Defender will be softer and therefore pick up D4 customers?

If i were in the market for yet another Landrover product (have a D4 tdV 3.0 and Range Rover) i would swap my 7 year old D4 with a new D4 rather than the D5. I have had so many offers from people wanting to buy the D4 but my wife refuses to let it go. The best LR product i have ever owned.

RRS starts at £60k, so pitched firmly at Cayenne buyers, I think. I also wonder whether new Defender will ever see the light of day - there can't be much margin in the Ranger/Navara space?

Surely the X5/Q7 don't start much less than that? £50 something (too lazy to check!)?

The ranges are all so confusing and overlapping confused

£44k for X5, £48k for Q7 - might be like-for-like with RRS once you get onto bigger engines, but I CBA to look either, TBH...
