Anyone spec'd and regretted 22 inch alloys on an R/R Sport?
Discussion
I'm about to order my wife a new Range Rover Sport later this month and can't help but to be drawn to the 22 inch, 5 split spoke, 504 style alloy wheels.
In my opinion (and it is only my opinion) I think they are the best looking wheels on the option list - I also think a large car needs large wheels to fill out the arches and keep the car in proportion.
However, as many of us know, 22 inch wheels firm up the ride but just how bad is it?
I've driven a demonstrator with 21 inch wheels on and felt happy with that, although I am slightly concerned about increasing size further, plus Land Rover does clearly state on the configurator the following:
"Please note if 22" wheels are fitted ride and road noise will be degraded on some coarser road surfaces"
Has anyone spec'd these?
Are you happy with them?
And has anyone found them impossible to live with and wished they'd gone for the 21 inch?
Many thanks in advance

Personally, I wouldn't... They might look great but the narrower tyres with the slightly deeper profile do give a better overall driving experience.
However, it's your car, your money, you're going to get a different answer from everyone here but you're the one who has to live with the decision. The best thing you can do is try & take both types out for an extended drive (and not just 10mins around the block!!) and see what you think.

I have spec'd the 22" 508 style on mine and asked the salesman about increased road noise or affect on the ride. He said in his experience, there was barely any noticeable difference in the real world between the 21" and the 22".
Whilst I am aware he is a salesman and wants to get me to add as much spec as possible, he also will (I hope) have decent experience of a range of cars with various sizes fitted. So with that in mind, I have to kinda trust his opinion (in fairness, I had already spec'd the wheels when I asked him, so he was not trying to get me to upgrade at that point).
My wife has a new Q5 running 20's and the road noise is noticeable on crappier surfaced roads, but in comparison to my S3 it's still like driving on a cloud...so it also will depend on where you are coming from! Even a slightly noisier 22" will seem like a dream compared to my S3.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to give your advice - I will see if I can test one fitted with 22's, although from what I can tell, very few dealers seem to spec them on their demos.
If I can't get to drive one, I probably will err on the side of caution and go 21 inch, after all, I guess it's more important for me to be comfortable on the inside, than it is for the car to look good to those on the outside.

Completely each to their own of course!
For me, I have to walk up to my car a few times each day. I like to look at it when I walk up to it and I know that if I didn't spec the wheels I wanted, I would always have a tiny little pang when I looked at it that it perhaps wasn't quite what I had in my head.
To me, choosing the wheels is as important as choosing the colour. Arguably, the colour matters not a st...after all, you only see it on the outside...but I still made sure to spec my colour of choice.

I've just taken delivery of a new RRS with 22 inch wheels. The ride is great, no problems with crashing into bumps or deterioration over rubbish surfaces (i.e most of them). It feels like it was developed for bigger wheels, to be honest.
^This . You will hardly notice the difference.I have a RR with 22s. They look great IMHO and I'm glad we went with them for that reason but they are not very practical.
If your other half is not too great at manoeuvres then they will be scraped up in no time.
I treat that car like a baby and I've still managed to get small damage on each wheel.
The problem is that there is so little tyre wall that the rim is below kerb height when parking.
Even bumping up a kerb can damage them unless you take it v.slow.
I can't fault the ride quality but I suspect there can be more noise on some surfaces.
So, to sum up; if you love the look, go for it but be aware that there will be drawbacks.
If you are not sure about them in the first place, don't bother and go for something with more sidewall.
