Remove the body
And put. Defender body on it ?
It's not a straight swap. All of the outriggers are different and the Disco chassis doesnt have a rear crossmember like a Defender. Also the Defender chassis is deeper than the one on a Disco (1), and the Disco is a 100" wheel base which wasn't used on Defenders which are 92.9, 110 or 127Remove the body

Lots of people did it years ago to make hybrids, usually making coil sprung series land Rovers. It is possible but in no way a straight swap.

Do I buy a disco, and a galvo defender chassis, and put the lot off that, on that, then add a defender body ?
That would work far better. The axles and suspension and entire drivetrain would swap over with the exception of the rear propshaft.Still quite a lot of work with stuff like exhausts and so on, but this option is pretty straight forward compared to the first one.
Quickest way would be to contact http://www.fourwd.org.uk/page2.html
Not quite a straight swap, but you get most of the looks on the newer chassis.

I looked into this a couple of years back as I had a ratty old disco with fairly sound running gear.
The snag is that you have to modify the chassis to get the defender bodywork to fit, which triggers an IVA. This may not be easy to pass with old defender/90/110 bodywork.
You also need to shorten the 110 rear tub in a couple of places. It's not too hard but it's not a simple swapping of parts.
