How are you all getting on with the Discos?

Looking at one and not sure between 2.0 or 3.0 litre. Is there much of a MPG difference between the 2?
For the love of God don't buy the 2.0 - be sensible and get the 3.0

We have had a couple of 3.0 D4's, a couple of RRS' with TDV8 and SDV6, and we've had a D5 2.0 SD4.

It lasted 6mths, tops. We didn't gel with it at all. There just didn't seem to be sufficient torque to get the car going. I know LR talked about it being some 400kg lighter, but this sort of car doesn't do well without the torque of the V6, and that's without towing anything. It also sounded like a hairdryer on heat.

Tech wise I couldn't fault it. It was cheaper to run, which I think was the point of its existence, and it was easy to use. But, The engine / gearbox combo with the size of the vehicle just didn't work for us. We didn't like the rear end of the car, but never held it long enough to get the Startech boot mod done. We went back to an RRS with the SDV6. Will now save up until we can get back into a SDV6 D5.

Still glad i bought the 3L. Suits the car very well - get about 35mpg on motorways - but overtaking is effortless.

For the love of god, dont buy a 2.0 petrol (not driven the 2.0 diesel).

Honestly, its fking awful, just wrong wrong wrong. It feels like it needs an invitation a week in advance to get it moving. It sounds st and is st.

Its not that its slow, but there is no torque and no instant power.

Thats just the engine, dont get me started on how crap the rest of car is. I have done a good few hundred thousand miles in D4s, and this one, FULLY loaded (about £70K) is getting sold now after 3 months.

Oh, and it returns about 22mpg on the same routes and driving style as the old D4s.

That’s slightly concerning! My 2.0 petrol arrives in September to replace my D4. I wanted the big diesel but the residual value was making it very expensive on a monthly basis (sorry - I’m a PCP man), £100 a month extra on the same HSE Lux spec car.

I understand your issues with the rest of the car as I also think it’s a step backwards in many ways from the D4. That being said, it’s still the only car on the market that I actually want - wife doesn’t like the XC90, I can’t stand Mercs, the X5 isn’t to my taste and Audi Q7s just look gash. Unfortunately they no longer make the D4.....

I’m hoping your negativity towards the engine is partly because you don’t like the car itself. The 2.0 diesel is awful and going for the petrol was my way of avoiding it!
