Guys, we've just bought an approved used L320 RR Sport for my missus from a LR dealer in the Midlands.

It's in good nick with only 30k miles on it and comes with warranty etc so no big worries there, however when we took it for a test drive I was sitting in the back and couldn't help but notice that the tailgate creaked like a haunted house. The creaking depended on the road surface but it was offensively noisy and it would certainly make my teeth itch if I drove it for long. The sales guy said that the two piece tailgate of the previous shape RRS can sometimes creak as the two sections rub together and it was something that the workshop would get sorted. It's something that would make me walk away from it if it wasn't fixed when it comes to collection time.

RRS owners, is this a common issue, just so I know what I'm talking about if and when I need to play hard ball with the dealer?

Certainly isn't a 'common' issue, should be easily sortable and free given the LR Warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I've been in the back of a couple of RR Sports in the past and I've never noticed anything like it. A quick google reveals that the plastic coating on the tailgate strikers can wear off and there was a recall for a batch that were fitted without the plastic coating altogether!

I'm excited about the car but can't help worrying a bit that I'm googling faults on a car I've not even taken delivery of yet! Let's hope all is well and as you say it's under LR warranty so I'll just dig my heels in until I'm happy.
