I’m getting seriously tempted by a middle-aged RRS but it’s knowing when to jump in so you catch the market at the bottom. Insurance for my postcode has gone weird and where a full fat or RRS was £2500 in the summer it’s now down about £1600 - still a lot but I can almost stomach it. I reckon February or March might be the time to take the plunge.
The facelift 2018 to 2022 are still commanding a premium. Great value below 2018 depending on how you like the facelift features. 2016 brought a mild infotainment upgrade, so you can do things like start the heated seats before the infotainment boots up, plus the graphics are refreshed. 2017 MY brought the 10 inch infotainment, so an upgrade on the 2016 that I bought in terms of how it looks and operates.

Then of course, it got the comprehensive infotainment upgrade in 2018 with the fancy climate control and tilting 10 inch screen, plus new lights, and different exhausts etc.

I was happy with the 2016 and paying mid £25k area but as you go up each milestone in terms of getting new features/looks, its always that 'for just a bit more, you can have.....'

2015 to 2016 brings something new, then 2017, then 2018, then you've the newer engines post 2018 facelift launch......next thing you know you're shopping yourself into a 2022 SVR lol biggrin

Still don't have my car. Its bought and paid for and was supposed to get it last week. They were putting a fresh MOT on it, and it passed that with no issues on Thursday, but apparently the tester said the fuel tank cradle was showing signs of rust, so they've decided to replace that now as well. We paid for the car on Thursday and said we would pick it up Friday or Saturday, and were told no problem.

It all sounds a bit odd, that it passed the MOT with no faults or advisories yet they pointed out the fuel tank cradle. So I'm waiting to hear when they are going to fit it and when I can get the car. It will be interesting if they itemise all this on the service paperwork as outside of the regular service that they done, they've also done the timing belt and associated 7 year 'big service' items, refurbished alloys, paint touch ups and now this fuel tank cradle. I asked to collect it on Saturday and to do the fuel tank cradle at a more convenient time, but they wouldn't let me. Said its going to need another valet again too!? Its just been done lol

On the one hand I'm pleased that they are prepping the car and doing this stuff, but on the otherhand, I'm wondering how I'm not allowed to drive a car that I've paid for, and thats literally just passed its MOT without issue. I've got the V5 and the MOT certificate in my hand as I type this lol! But no fking car keys!

WTH??!

Sounds a bit strange. Can you pop round unannounced and see it?

With the silence I’d just assumed you’d got it, upgraded the decking and sold it again for a tidy profit before moving up to a DBX. Like with the boats?!

Ha ha!

This one's a keeper. Boat life has been terrible this year. Blue green algae is killing the Loughs and we don't go far really, just drop anchor and swim......only it's not safe to swim. And it literally kills dogs too. No kayaking or paddle boarding either. So my boat has been an ornament 2nd half of the year.

At least I've got a suitable car to tow it smile

Actually, no, just remembered I don't have the car either lol

I absolutely love mine. Aintree Green with Espresso/Almond interior. I do echo your views on the stereo, I had an Evoque before with the Meridian system as standard and assumed they all came with it. Hopefully someone, somewhere will offer an upgrade of sorts.

Mine is on 81k with full LR/Specialist history including both timing belts on purchase and 4x new Pirelli Scorpion Zero LR Approved tyres. I just straight swapped my X3 30d for it as I liked it,but didn't gel with it like my Evoque.

Insurance is around £900 with Esure, I'm 29 with 7 years no claims in the far north of England.

Quite a few headwinds impacting the residuals, namely insurance but also credit costs. It was either 12.9% or 11.9% when I asked in the dealership. Not sure what bank loans are at the minute but we sold some shares to pay for ours due to the cost of credit.

Hearing that mortgage rates are softening and whether that translates to bank loans/car finance remains to be seen but yeah, its hard to time exactly.

This is an old article, but it says January is the best time to buy a used car, followed by February and December. I've not seen any December special offers from Land Rover over and above what I received in November (extra year warranty is what I chose) but I would certainly be stepping foot inside a dealer or 2 come January to see if you can get a good deal.

Very nice, she looks ready for anything with the suspension fully raised smile

I love that wood trim insert, I think I even prefer that one to the black wood inserts I have in mine. There are a few grey/silver insert options from the pre 2018 cars and I think they look a little dated now, whereas the black in mine gives it a bit of a fresher look, and that wood insert in yours is just a timeless trim IMO, especially with the classic look you have going on with the dark green paint and silver wheels.

Loving the car now it's been on a few trips. Took a drive from my town into the centre of Belfast and back, 40 mile round trip.

While on the motorway, I did some instant MPG tests using the display and at 60mph, it was floating around 44-47mpg then at 70mph, it was 30-33mph, so basically 50% economy hit going an extra 10mph. Quite a difference. So drove at 60mph for the most part plus the city and town traffic to see what combined cycle (ish) MPG I could squeak out of it.

Once home, it was 40.9mpg for 40 miles (28 of those motorway speed) and average speed for the trip was 38mph (Christmas traffic in Belfast city centre brought the average speed down a fair bit I presume) Temperature was 3 degrees, a cold day.

An interesting little test overall. I think with the typical commute, we could net around 33% fuel bill saving by driving at 60 instead of 70 in this car, not far of £1k PA, which would pay for the insurance lol smile

Our X6 was 31mpg, but tbh, always driven at 70mph +

Is it possible to have the discipline to drive at 60mph? Over the 14 motorway miles, you only save 2 minutes travel time, about 15% ish quicker, but 50% more fuel used on MPG.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to drive at 60. Sure, it takes me 2 mins longer, but is that such a chore, 2 mins added to the commute? It certainly doesn't feel like a chore sitting behind the wheel in such a lovely cabin. Nice and quiet and comfortable, its a nice place to be.

Anyway, bit of a ramble there. Love the interior and the Carpathian grey paint colour. I'll take some more pics but LR Belfast presented the car beautifully. It's in pristine condition for the age. My mum actually though we had bought a brand new one, such was the quality of how we received it.

My only pics since we collected it, the paint really pops under the lights (RRS in it's natural habitat of a Tesco car park lol)

So the car I picked up a couple of months ago was back in LR today to get a part fitted (fuel tank cradle that I had mentioned previously)

Basically, about 8 or 9 weeks for the part to arrive. Was no big deal really as I was still driving away at the car but just goes to show the logistic issues they are having with parts. Its a hell of a cost to swallow if they had to give me a courtesy car while waiting on a part.

When I picked the car up start of December, the sales guy mentioned that he would sort me out with a gift or a fuel fill up when I brought the car back to get the part fitted, due to them not having the part ready. I arrived at 8am this morning but unfortunately no sales team were in at all, just service technicians so I left the car with them and mentioned that the sales guy offered a fuel fill up back in December.

Picked the car up later and noticed they left me some sweets in the cupholder tray smile Oh, they cleaned it too, but they always do that.

I was hoping for a fuel fill up, and I purposely brought the car in running on fumes, with 14 miles range left on the display. Was pleased to see they filled it to the brim with fuel too. Nice!

So while there are clearly issues with parts at the moment, I've got to say the service was excellent. Wasn't holding out much hope to get a free tank of fuel TBH but they did it anyway which was great.

Glad you are still pleased with the car and that they honoured the fuel promise.

It really does look stunning in the colour combination you've got, timelessly classic and understated which I love.

Thanks. The colour, plain alloys and interior is something we love about it.

I really wanted to stand out from the crowd with this car, so I bought the plainest looking one I could find lol wink

Tongue in cheek of course but its sort of half true - so many are black alloys with ghost packs, black packs, stealth packs, I decided to try 'no pack' biggrin

To be perfectly honest, I just needed one with a towbar that wasn't red or white as the missus doesn't like those colours, but delighted with what we ended up with. I think its lovely in the flesh that carpathian grey colour.

You do realise the electric towbar will fail, expensively?
If its being sold as approved used it has to have all the required service items completed, otherwise I wouldn't touch it.
Didn't know about towbar issues actually - thats another thing on the list to investigate!

Might turn out to be a bit of a game of cat and mouse on the servicing. If for any reason they don't supply the car with the big ticket service items all complete, I can then remind them that as part of their approved used offer, they are offering the next service free, so I'll just take them up on their offer straight out of the gate so they may as well do it now. Hopefully it doesn't come to that though.
Tow bar is an easy fix, there are vids on YouTube. The motor can be replaced and it’s about 60, I did mine and it’s a fairly simple job but I am happy with spanner’s.

Lovely L494 and Carpathian is a great colour. We loved our 2014 bought as an Approved Used in 2020 it was 6.5 yrs old so similar age to yours. I too wanted the warranty. They drive beautifully and make you feel really comfortable and dare I say spoilt. After 18 months we changed into a New Defender which we love for different reasons. The L494 with the Dynamic option seems to defy physics with the way it drives.
