Which Evoque?

My missus has it in her head that her next car is going to be an Evoque.

Reading some of the horror stories of poor reliability, can someone please advise what would be considered the best model to go for regarding reliability? Not worried about age as such, but not sure if one type of engine is considered more reliable than another?

Cheers in advance for any useful advice.

I may be corrected by those more knowledgeable but I understand the 2.2d engine to be more reliable that the later 2.0d one. My good lady has a 2.2d 2012MY and it's a nice drive.

Many thanks for the reply. It looks like there are issues with the 2.0 Ingenium engine from what I have just read. Gearbox issues potentially on early versions.

I guess the harder I look, the less rosey the picture. Could be said for most marques I guess - just more wary due to JLR's poor reliability record/history.

None of them?

We have a 2021 in the family and whilst the engine and gearbox haven’t failed yet (only 14k miles though, so there’s time……) the door handles are failing and popping out at random.

There will be issues with electrics and other components on all of them, regardless of powertrain.

Are you aware of the insurance and theft issues?

Yeah, but you don't have to spend that much tome looking for Land Rovers in general.

As for the OP. It would help if you gave us some sort of budget? Bit pointless us telling you how good the latest 1.5 hybrid is when you only have £15k to spend.

Early Ingenuim (2.0D) are certainly worth avoiding as they are pretty bad. The Ford sourced 2.2 engine is much less refined but also much more reliable. I'm afraid I can't comment on any of the others.

I did allude to that in my previous post, but let's be honest, JLR's reliability reputation, in a field of the poor is hardly stella!

I was trying to convince my self that not all Evoques can be that bad on the question of reliability, hence the original question - what is considered to be the better of them all?

Having gratefully receiving some replies to my original question, and digging deep into the night researching, I am slowly getting a better idea of what's what.

I've got to be honest and say I'm trying to convince my missus not to go down the Evoque route - but it has to be said, as far as SUV's go, they are pretty and she is smitten! She tends to be head strong, so it will take some convincing her that I'm not up for paying ridiculous repair bills over and above decent & regular servicing.

You can get a approved used gen 2 for £20k, so get that and you have the warranty for back up

It has to be said many issues with Land Rover models are battery related which throw up many and odd faults. Replacing the battery before issues start can ward off some of these issues. There is a lot of power hungry systems in these things that dont like voltage drops.

I'm in my second year of FFRR ownership and 20K+ miles in and mine has been terrific. Mrs S is just starting to get a couple of issues with her evoke at 12 months in all battery related but we knew before winter her battery was on its last legs and we didnt get around to changing it. It'll get done this week.

Check the windscreen.

The Evoque, Discovery and iPace suffer from windscreen bond failure across the top.

This is a good point re the battery. My wife's 2016 Disco Sport starting acting up with weird electrical glitches which turned out to be a failing battery. Replaced it and all is good again.

Mrs AD has had an auto 4x4 2016 SE 2.2 from new.

Only done 30,000 miles

Faults:

1 Central locking on front door failed
2. Windscreen leak (JLR refunded hafl the cost of replacement)
3. Front ABS wheel speed Sensor replaced
4. Rubber beading on A-pillar post split and cracked (hot summers in South of France)
5. New battery after five years


Not bad for seven years of otherwise drama-free ownershjip Main agent servicing.. No point replacing it as the values have been trashed by the insurance issue,. Renewal for both of us to drive was 'only' £650 London address. Actually it was £,150 after £500 for the Tracker that had to be fitted.

So - to update my original question with an outcome.

Have just placed a deposit on a 2015 (MY15) 2.2 Dynamic. Has 76K on the clock, full main dealer service history with 7 services - Pano roof, Adaptive cruise control, Mag shocks, plus loads of other stuff. Loire Blue.

Gave £12950.

Have it booked in to have the steering bolts replaced in May - havent even picked the car up yet!
