I was bought a half days training at Land Rover Experience in Ashford for Christmas and went along to give it a go on Saturday. Blooming brilliant is all I can say.
I’ve never really been off road properly and to use the very latest kit, i.e. a kited out 2003 model td5 110 properly was quite a treat.
The setting was Eastwell Park off junction 9 of the m20. A beautiful 2000-acre manor with two specially built training areas.
The first in a disused chalk pit where I learned how to ascend and descend extremely high slopes. Finally learning how to use diff-lock and low ratio gear properly. Also I successfully learned how to get out of failed hill starts in forward and reverse.
The second area was dense woodland with a steep bomb crater in the middle of it where I learned how to drive properly in deep ruts also sensible navigation of difficult dense woodland terrain. Finishing off with more dramatic hill climbs on the dirt bowl.
The staff were excellent and my instructor answered all of my questions stupid and sensible.
They don't have running water to drive through i.e.; fords and streams as there is the possibility of polluting the water course with oil and fuel.
Refreshments were laid on and there was an informative safety brief.
For the price of £200 quid for a half day and the full range of land Rover vehicles to choose from I would recommend it to anyone.
