I have a 2004 RR Vogue V8. Lovely car, and the perfect alternative to my Chim.
Neither has gone wrong, so i can't tell you what to look out for - but good luck with teh search.

No major problems at all with our 03 or 06, only thing of note was a dislodged sensor(water i think) apparently its not an uncommon problem but it was an easy fix.

Oh and both have been V8 vogues but will probably change to the new diesel for the next one.

Hi Mark. My warranty runs out this month, and i am considering taking out the LR extended warranty, but it is £1500 per year. Do you think i might need it (40k miles, owned from new) ?

Apparently LR lose money on every extended warranty.....so the answer is yes!

I would.Im now starting to see a lot of problems on the L322 as they start to put the miles on.They are turning out to be not as reliable as were first made out.And with prices three to four times more expensive than the previous P38,then the extended warranty is a safe option.

Im looking at a Dec 2004 HSE with 18k miles on the clock. It is still under warranty and owner said 3 electric steering column changes(known fault he says). I think il take the warranty. I know the Vogue has a higher spec but nothing significant? Anyone else comment on the steering column issue. 1500 notes is a heafty warranty but i also know that air suspension would be a fair bit to sort lol

Steering column failure is still an issue along with a few others. The warranty is best taken out for peace of mind. The parts cost on the L322 is a killer.Another one ive seen this week and the third in six months is alternator failure. On the previous P38 you could pick up one new for £140.Now on the L322 and bearing in mind the alternator is now water cooled, that part will now cost you £600.There has not been that many problems with the EAS on the 322 un-like the previous P38.

I had mine (2002 HSE) for a Year with no warrenty (other than 3 month indie that sold me it)

2 weeks after I got it the drive shaft went - replaced under warrenty
4 months ago the stering column went - £800 to replace
3 Months ago one of the sensors went - £150 to replace

The chap in the garage that did the work (guy salmon)said that it probably wasn't worth having the warrenty (which could make sense if they loose money on it)

Over all though I've been very impressed with the car - the perfect companion for the Cerbera!

Warranty essential. My 52 plate 4.4 Vogue has had the following replaced -

Levelling air suspension failed twice

Gearbox self destructed at 40k miles

Now on 3rd front diff / propshaft

Indicators have a life of their own

Otherwise its a a great car! Seriously though when it is running fine it is fantastic. Engine spot on, trim levels to match a Bentley.

Are all of the above faults covered under warranty? I'm considering buying an 02 plate vogue with 54k on the clock from a private seller, can you recommend any other warranties or is it possible to just go to Landrover and buy one? Is there much difference between and LR warranty and a 3rd party one costing half the price?

Also, would all of the common faults (suspension, diff, etc) be covered under a general warranty?

Thanks,

Mike

My 2003 V8 has had zero problems in the 2 yrs i've owned it, but i think i'm in the minority. That said it only gets used at weekends and does about 5000 miles a year. I understand a common problem is the front diffs going.
Personally i'm not a big fan of warranties, but it just depends if you can afford to repair it if it breaks and if you are going to worry about it.

I have had a look at a couple of 4.4 Vogues and both had bad rusting along the bottom window rubbers. Also the door mirrors have the same problem. Is this something that is known, the dealers of course say no !

A LR warranty covers essentially everything aside consumables and is very good. However, the common diff. failure, has resulted in LR shirking coverage on RR's which have failed more than twice. (It is a known fault and requires very accurate alignment of the prop shafts to prevent failure etc.) You cannot get a full warranty on a new shape RR if it has over 60k, you will only get a reduced warranty.

As it costs £1497, I decided to renew at the end of my 3rd year for a further 12months, of course I didn't need it in the end, but I could afford the warranty and the piece of mind it gave me over worrying about the suspension or diff failing and the huge expense. In the end I used the interest free loan LR provide and spread it over 10mnths as part of my monthly running costs.

yes it is a carry over from the P38 it seems, my 3 year old LR322 started to bubble under the wind sills too.

My 95 p38 that has now died, had probably the same amount of "bubble" as the 04 i looked at. On my car, i never looked as to whether it was the door or the rubber trim, must have metal in it ? Have you tried the corrosion warranty route ? I spoke to LR customer services who of course had never heard of it and suggested i buy a car without it ! I also checked out the lower boot lid, thats going to go as well, is it not ? Just can not find any other car i want, so will get one i guess.

hi all,

im looking at a '03 3.0TD probaboly an HSE spec. Now, the question is can you put a LR warranty onto a car that you hanvnt bought from a LR dealer? lookin gon their site and it seems that they can apply a warrenty on cars upto 60k miles but it doesnt say if you can buy just a warranty from them from a car purchased from another source.

can anyone help on this?

have looked at third part warranties and they are coming in at about £700 for a year but then there is always the potential issue of getting a claim to stick through them.

thanks

S.

Great car but very complicated beneath the skin and parts are super expensive therefore wlak away from any car without a FSH.

The Landrover warranty through the approved scheme is excellent and includes all the bits that some warranty providers exclude.

I have had two and love them,

Go for a Vogue with all the toys it is the only way to travel!
