Great car but very complicated beneath the skin and parts are super expensive therefore wlak away from any car without a FSH.

The Landrover warranty through the approved scheme is excellent and includes all the bits that some warranty providers exclude.

I have had two and love them,

Go for a Vogue with all the toys it is the only way to travel!
I guess this means the price of these things will tumble then, bit like the old e39 M5's without warranties.
Then once they fall into the hands of us mere mortals, who dont accept that an entire steering column needs replacing and explore whats require to actually fix it rather than replace followed by documenting that on the interweb. Bit like the P38 did really.

Yep. There's two electric motors on the column that move the wheel up & down and in & out. It's usually the in and out motor that causes issues, but I found giving the mech a quick strip down and regrease sorts it.

I know this is an old thread, but I would like to add a couple of things. My folks drive a 2004 4.4 Vogue. They bought it new from the local dealer, where it has been looked after since. Once the warranty ran out they went to the expense of buying the LR warranty. This is has proved to be a good thing, as the diff has already been replaced/repaired. However the reverse sensors packed up, so they had it repaired and were charged a couple of hundred quid and told that they were not covered under the extended warranty? Is this correct?

Secondly, the car got stuck in 4th gear - so they took it to the back to the dealer again, they reported that the gearbox is fooked and a new one is required, this was this morning.

My concluding message, is DO NOT BUY A LR/RR WITHOUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!

P.S The car has done less than 40k.

If you have a mark 3 RR (as I do), or are thinking of getting one, you should read this:

Crikey... thats put me off.
Although wasn't there a post on here a few weeks ago say all props regardless of warranty will be replaced with CV based props.

There is a recall at the moment for all the "BMW" L322s, irrespective of whether they're in warranty or not for a redesigned front diff using a CV joint rather than the splined connection. Contact any dealer for details. My V8 was done a month or so ago.

Also, my specialist recommends changing the gearbox oil every 24000 miles unlike LR who think they should be sealed for life. The gearbox in the L322 is apparently a GM unit and is broadly the same as the gearbox in the P38 which needed the 24000 mile oil changes. Personally, I'd err on the side of caution and have the oil changed every couple of years as it's bound to be cheaper than a new gearbox.

Interestingly enough, the warranty doesn't cover the replacement fluids????

I'm a new member here as of this evening.
I've emailed honestjohn (Sunday Telegraph) on the subject of used car warranties as I too am looking for an 02/03 Vogue. He has sent me some excellent links especially a very recent new law that gives consumers -only when dealing with a dealer-far more comeback than the old sale of goods act.Even on second hand cars the burdon of proof if things go wrong within six months of purchase shifts to the dealer to establish there was no fault at the time of purchase. This over simplifies the new law but by Monday I will send the link he sent me. This could make buying a 6 month warrantee redundant!

Just got the car back, so I thought I would run it for a while ensure it is ok. I reset the computer and set off on my 14 mile commute cross country, box seems fine but my fuel consumption is excellent! biggrin
