Range Rover TDV8 Chipping....

Dear All,
I hope this has not been done to death. Did a search and could not find much.
Am about to chip my RR TDV8 and it is between Superchips and DMS, but I am looking for some help deciding as figures are:
Superchips increase:
BHP: 53
lb/ft torque: 141
DMS increase:
BHP: 71
lb/ft torque: 126
I would have thought that torque on a car like this was much more important than power? DMS say they cannot understand Superchips figures and Superchips say torque is better and they can increase BHP more, but car starts to smoke (diesel) at high revs.
Certainly Superchips are cheaper at £599 against £1,200, but more concerned on getting the right chip...
Any owners out there who have experience with this?

Custom maps can give DMS results, but at super chip prices, and all work comes with before and after dyno sessions, so you know exactly what you are getting.

I'm sure you know this, but your warranty will be voided if you chip your car.

Thanks for the web link. Interesting as mine is a Stratstone RR and I can't believe how quick it is, to the extent I sent an e-mail to the dealership I bought it from asking if it has already been chipped.
I have only had the car for a couple of weeks and like someone suggested on the other site, this is the only TDV8 I have driven.
Find the whole thing about main dealers dubious and am sure it differs thoughout the network, as they all tend to be holier than though, whatever the marque.
We ware indeed neighbours as I too live in Finchampstead (Wellingtonia Av)!

We just bought a 2 yr old TDV6 from LR in Reading - they seem OK, but haven't used service department yet.
I'm on Nine Mile Ride (not quite as nice as Wellingtonia!) - flash if you see us in our Blue RR.

Dear All,
I have now had the Range Rover chipped by Paramount Performance. Fantastic is the only way to describe it!
BHP up by around 50hp and Torque around 100nm+ needs to be confirmed, as we were not able to test at the time.
Mid range is hugely powerful as is motorway cruising, when slightly depressing the throttle to pass someone the car pulls like a train.
So far MPG has improved from an average of 23mpg to 27mpg, sometime hitting 30mpg on a motorway journey and that’s not driving with the mpg in mind.
If anyone were thinking about having similar work done, I would definitely talk with Paramount. Good, straight talking guys who know their stuff and from what research I did produce better results than any of the competitors for the cheapest price.
Plan to take my wifes BMW 530d there later in the year and am very keen to look out for AMV8 so that I can put their performance exhaust and re-map on it to get the performance and noise it deserves!

To be precise, gained 48hp so increased it to 322hp. The cable that is needed for the torque increase was broken and replacement on order, so I am going back when it arrives, but the reckon 100-120 increase. I will post the result when I get it.
Also advised that it would take a few hundred miles to bed in and would become ever so slightly quicker, however if I wanted it to increase further "they could get more out of it".
The before and after dyno test what what attracted me to them.

most dynos measure torque and then calculate BHP from speed, Suprised you have the BHP figure and not the torque figure.To be precise, gained 48hp so increased it to 322hp. Go to someone who knows what they are doing, flash files like super chips can be seen by dealers and leave a “scare” on the ECU.
With the right software you can rewrite the original file so on inspection everything looks normal, i.e. hard and soft ware numbers still match. Only with a very detailed investigation with specialist software can the new data be displayed, and even then you have to know what to look for.
In addition the file / ECU can always be put back to standard at any time, we always keep the original file and offer free reset at any time.
However, we have never had a single failure to date.
I am in the process of considering a RR TDV8. I have had dealer chipped Range Rovers supplied before (admittedly this was a few years ago) but the current warranty situation does concern me if dealers are less able nowadays to use their discretion if a problem arrises.
So having followed this thread I now have two questions. Is it 100% certain that the Paramount method is undetectable and what is the situation with units like Tunit which plug in to the wiring loom. Do I assume, that in spite of their claims that the ECU does not know, that it will?
Or is it that one accepts that the plug in units are less good but they leave no trace? I am have no reason to say they are less good I am just pondering.

Good question, buy the way we fit both options, clearly a personalised file can offer more than a generic plug in, but both have their uses, horses for courses and all that.
Ref the Remap, remapping can be carried out a few different ways. Each ECU has a unique hard and soft ware number, when a file is over written the soft ware number is changed, this can be seen quite easily with many tools including the dealer diagnostic tool. Some “flash” programs, the likes written remotely from the vehicle and then flashed on to a vehicle can do a lot more, they can in fact lock in the new software, this corrupts the ECU, sometimes called ECU “scaring” this is done to stop people copying the new program, but to anyone with diagnostic or tuning software, this screams “modified” from a million miles.
The other option is to down load the original software, “adjust it” and then reinstall it, without leaving a foot print, the ECU hard and software numbers still match so everything still looks original.
That said the data has been changed, if someone who knows what they are doing with the right software, down loads and examines the file in detail and they know what a standard file looks like, they may see the slight changes, that said this is quite specialised and not easy to identify.

When an LR comes of the production line it may turn left and got to the Arctic or turn right and go to the Sahara. Both customers will expect it to work perfectly.If your car is going to spend its life in the UK then some of the tuning parameters that deal with those extreme conditions can be modified.
