Memory is a bit hazy, but I think it's bolted on the chassis rail. (around the rh rear passenger area)

Nervy,
I have it on good authority that said fuel filter is under either driver or passenger seat (outside car obviously) and is renewable every 48k as per service schedule. Pick up the fuel lines and somewhere in line is a metal cannister.

If it's anything like my e39 one it hides behind a plastic cover and spits petrol everwhere when it's first undone.yikes

Service manual is equally vague as to where it is unfortunately.

It's bolted to the chassis rail on the drivers side, roughly in line with the B piller.

Easy to do if up on a ramp, otherwise be prepared to get fuel in your eyes!
