Depends on how you drive it, how sensitive you are to the autobox and what it's doing, and what sort of driving you regularly do. I live out in the sticks, the school run is 20mins worth of 30 / 50 / NSL and includes two 1/3 hills. I also don't tend to hang around, and will overtake most dawdling things given space and opportunity. Trip2 was reset when I bought the car and not touched since, so in the last 18,000 miles I have averaged 19.9mpg. Not too shabby for a 2.5ton portable semi-detatched house.
i was impressed with the huge boot and comfortable seats, loved the interior. the Disco 3 is probably a better car, just it doesn't look as nice as the Range.

so low 20s on a motorway run. i have no idea why i'm attracted to the Big Range i shouldn't be with the current fuel costs! just that the value for money they look like an awesome buy!

how much is the serving? (inspection 1 - 2?), how long do the tyres last? are the brakes need of replacing every 20k?

are they are money pit?!
Depends who you ask! As with all cars there are lemons and trouble free ones. The fuel cost becomes immaterial when you consider what you're getting in comparison to other things - we have considered a Discovery on a couple of occasions, and wife is still thinking we ought to go that way for the flexibility of the extra seast - however, if we do, I shall get the V8 again, not the diesel. Considering the diesels manage 25 or so MPG combined economy and diesel is 12p or so more per litre, the fuelling cost becomes marginal compared to the extra value the mad car market puts on diesels. A 2005 Rangie V8 is around 24-25k, a TD6 diesel would be three or four thousand more. That's quite a differential to earn back in fuel...

I replaced the front tyres on mine when we bought it with 17k on the clock - the rears are still original and the new fronts now about a 3rd worn, with 35k up. It's had one set of front pads in that time too. Servicing is done by my friendly indy who also looks after my other cars, and has thus far only covered one service (inspection 2) which was about £260. Only problem I have thus far had is a failed brake-pad sensor which was about £18. On motorway runs we've been getting 24ish.

Had the LR322 first and now have the Disco 3. I have to say I did love the RR, but now 4 months into D3 ownership, I love this vehicle just as much. The big Rangie is for adults and families with older children, the Disco 3 is for young families. i.e. the Rangie is too nice to trash!

I agree about the V8 being just a good bet as a diesel D3, but you can never tell which way fuel prices are going to go in future, they cost the same to tax, plus you can't buy the V8 any more in the UK. I'd wait for the new 5.0ltr V8! Mine is averaging 1000 miles/month and returning at least 28MPG on mixed driving. No complaints so far.......

Aye that seems to be the general vibe - certainly it's a goodly chunk of Wife's argument for us changing to a D3 - its just that bit more hardwearing. I'll miss the luxury, but then the D3 still has most of the same bells and whistles, just isn't quite as sumptuously appointed. We were going second hand anyway, and 05/06 V8 D3s are now under £20k.... muhahahahaha. Bung in a couple of grand for an LPG conversion, and job done.

Yeah we bought a new 2008.5MY which switched to soft ruffled leather and wood trim and it is a far more luxurious now. The new car in 2010-ish is supposed to go much further with the interior appointments.

<£20k for an '06 V8. Blimey!

I saw a few white ones in Florida earlier this year. Maybe the sun had got to me but they did look awesome.

A gassed 4.4 Vogue has got to be the way forward.

They look great in the US, see plenty of them in LA (usually with monstrous 4000000 inch alloys on). Trouble is in leafy Worcestershire the white one around here has clear untinted windows, and beige leather.... vomit

i think the white ones would suit the US better, would be a grat car to cruise around the likes of LA, Miami etc in but i think im going to play it safe if i get one, the trouble is though the Java Black ones seem to hold a slight premium an its near on impossible to find one with matching black leather frown

I think the RR V8 LPG is the way to go ive had mine for 2 years and its been great!!!

I run around in it and it costs me the same as running a normal car, most ive paid for a service is 300 quid had brakes done, diff went that was 500 quid but got 50k warranty on new one, new radiator fitted 300 quid with coolant changed, so its been great really.

Ive also got it sat on 22" five spoke alloys, had the suspension ECU remapped so its sat 75mm lower (only one ive ever heard of that been able to be done, ive got a really geeky mate who has found out how to do it) tinted windows, 4 7" screens for dvd on the move so its got best of all worlds.

BUT its time to sell it ive no need for it anymore was only used for pleasure and our lass now has a car so gunna be using that.

So if anyone interested just mail me at daz.parker@ntlworld.com not on ebay or trader yet dont like the tire kickers coming but saw this thread and though it share how good its been and little plug to sell her if any interested.

02 Reg
Dark blue (black most times)
62k on clock
Tax till Dec
MOT out next month (will have full MOT on sale)
Cream leather with blue piping.

The best bit is its got a tranferable AA warranty for 2 years on everything but wear and tear, as many claims per year up to value of car per year, with 3k per claim!!!!

Any ineterst????????

Sounds lovely vomit

IMO, there is nothing more incongruous than a pimped Range Rover

Nah you got it all wrong its very subtle doesnt stand out like you think, it can be returned to normal in 30 mins, reset the suspension, standard wheels back on job done, im not into overboard RR but ive been very subtle the wheels are black, so doesnt look "pimped" like you thinking of.

So i take it that people think it would sell better with standard wheels and suspension?

Per Meeja. I for one would find a standard Rangy much more desireable that one that had suspension / wheel mods (If properly fitted, things like DVD screens etc would increase the desireability to me).

im the same, i think they look the best with the standard Vouge multispokes which i think are 19' or 20', im not a fan of the smaller wheels on them but this is because of thier design not thier size, the only non standard things i wouldnt mind one one would be smoked windows and the clear light conversion.

I looked for an RR Vouge for about 6 weeks and saw nothing but really bad examples which really disshapointed me. Was looking at the 02/03 plates and a lot of them seemed to have common faults problems including:

- Oxidising around the window trim (like the little bubbles under the black sealant)
- Door handles where flaking / corroding
- Interior Door trims loose (sounded like an old metro when you slammed the door on a few of them!)
- Condensation behind headlights

It might just be me, but I expected cars like this too have been looked after a bit better considering how much they costed when new.

I was really after a decent warranty too - stratstone where offering 3 months waranty on them, which i persoanlly though was shocking! Imagine a diff falling out of your TD6 after 4 months with no comeback!

Might have just been my bad luck, but am going to have another look around xmas time - they might have dropped a bit more by then and hopefully there will be some nicer examples about smile

Was going to go for the 4.4 Vouge, but my current 22mpg is bad enough - dont really want to step into sub 20's! A mate has a economy remapped TD6, gets 22+ to the gallon and has some decent poke, will have a look into one of them me thinks!

Seems it is a good time to but if you get a nice one and a good deal, you cant really get a better car for the money!

sums up exactly what i have noticed with 02/03 plate cars. not seen any well maintained early cars. the warranty issue is a problem imho, my local dealer has the same 3month warranty which is useless. mind you i didn't ask about extending it..

So you'd like a slow logburner that does 22mpg @ 130p per litre instead of a quick one that does 20mpg at 112p per litre?!wink

Ha! Very true - I am going on a bit of experience and other peoples opinion that 20mpg in a 4.4 is very difficult to achive though!

Its swings and roundabouts really, drive the TD6 like a girl and you will see mid twenties, possibly high twenties. On average you will see 21+

Drive the 4.4 like a girl and you will be lucky to see 20mpg. Give it some and it really is game over. I drove a 4.4 for over an hour at not a particuarly quick pace, and didnt see over 15mpg! frown

Just dont know how long I could put up with that for! But, There is no doubt the vouge is the better engine smile
