As long as your dealer does all the running around with the warranty it sounds like a bargain. I had a 'comprehensive' warranty on a 3 year old Audi A6 avant from a dealer. When the CVT box started playing up, it went into the dealers who were very helpful with the car, but wouldn't do anything with the warranty. I had to pay for all work then claim it back. It was a right pain in the ass.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Do not under any circumstances buy an HSE. ONLY BUY A VOGUE

Please don't buy an HSE. After all the advice you have had on this thread, you have chosen to buy the least desirable combination of engine & spec.

DO NOT DO IT

To add,

WHAT ARE YOU DOING MAN?!

The engine everyone hates.

The spec everyone hates.

Unless you're paying tuppence ha'penny for it, walk away!

Agreed, get a Vogue, but for god's sake avoid the rubbish BMW 6 pot diesel, it is utterly gutless in such a heavy car.

Either get an LPG conversion on the wonderful V8 or wait a little longer and get the coolest diesel around, the TDV8!! Whatever you decide, fear not about the scare stories, these are usually from people that drove the LR brand many years ago and are often eaten up with jealousy. Beleieve me when I say that it is not the most desirable 4x4 for nothing.....Land Cruiser etc = irrelevant.

Go buy the "Daddy". smile

They are not bad, but not as good as petrol power IMO.
Pardon your quoting.... I said nothing of the sort.

I have a V8 thankyou very much, don't want no log burning in my cars!

Don't worry too much about buying an HSE. The satnav in the early Vogues is pretty poor and apart from that, there are a few more electric toys to go wrong. Just make sure you pay a few quid less for an equivalent HSE (there aren't that many around anyway), buy on condition with a decent history and shove a Garmin on top of the dashboard. I bought a 2003 V8 HSE earlier this year and I get a buzz every time I drive it. Make sure LR have put the modified front diff on. They will do that for free and if you're planning to do a few miles, get a multipoint LPG conversion (Prins is probably the best).

My best advice is to get a low mileage one and make sure the transmission fluid is changed every other service. Despite it saying "sealed for life", if you want that life to be a long one, get the fluid changed.

you'll be delighted to hear, when i got there to buy it, it was sold....was a bargain price, so no wonder. Anyway, what is the difference in spec between HSE & Vogue?? If its just the sat-nav tv, im not bothered???? Are there hidden extras??

thanks.

It has nothing to do with the extras, it is ALL to do with badge snobbery. The Vogue is the ONLY one to have. Think along these lines: Ooh, that's a nice Boxster, "well, yes, I bought it because the 911 is......." You feeling me?

Well I love my RR HSE. didnt realise that it was that different to the Range Rover Vogue.

Ok, the Vogue has the front seats from a '99 740 BMW, so mid back can be angled. Heated rear seats, a badge, no rubber door strip.

Apart from that what is the difference. My HSE has parking, Tv, sat nav, heated seats.

Why the mass hysteria that a Vogue is the only one to go for?

There you have it, my argument exactly. You have to explain why you bought an HSE! With a Vogue, no explaination is required.

Because a "normal" HSE will lack much of that - the TV / NAV and so on were optional.... they were standard on the Vogue, so you know what you're getting.

so basically, what your all saying, its the same bar a few options. The options not being that big a deal it seems to me, so is the drive the same? comfort? basng all on a 3.0 litre diesel HSE. There are some HSE's for sale with vogue spec, so whats the story there? Also am i right in saying its the bmw x5 diesle engine in the 3.0D RR? Is that to suggest looking along the lines of purchasing an x5????

No - Range Rover has a 2.7 (non BMW engine, unlike the 4.4 petrol which is a BMW unit) and pedestrian performance, unlike the 3.0 diesel X5 which is pretty quick.

Range Rover TD6 IS BMW 3.0D engine, the 2.7 is the Jag engine but with only 1 turbo and is only found in Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport. The X5 3.0D is faster and better MPG than Range Rover but then so is a 5 Series estate. Range Rover is still the best 4x4 IMHO.
