Currently running a 95 Disco 300TDi (manual), mostly for towing my race car.
Looking at changing for a later Disco.
Either going for a late 300TDi, pref auto in ES spec, or an early Disco 2.
I believe (wrongly ?) that the TD5's are more fragile than the old TDi's so may be looking at a V8 on LPG.
And thats before we get onto replacing suspension bags and other electrical gremlins

Are the Disco 2's much better than the 300 ?

Ive now had 7 discos... starting from an early 200 tdi, 2x 300 tdi's 2xTD5's and 2 Disco 3tdv6's
The TD5 has loads more torque esp for towing... if you buy a 2002 onwards with some history all the problems were ironed out by then...
If you do run it for a while then get it chipped... the fuel usage wont be noticeable but the torque and accelaration will.
My last TD5 2002 plate did 200k and had no electrical issues... all it had was an occasional abs light on which was just the switch that needed reseting cost was minimal.
Engine wise it had one turbo and one manifold gasket.
It was fully dealer serviced as it was a pure work horse and i was towing farm machinery and vehicles so it was well worked and well tested.

The models i had were 5 seaters with no air suspension so that also prob kept my problems to a minimum.

The thing when driving that you need to get use to is the slight delay in the throttle responce as its fly by wire.

Good luck let me know what you choose to do.
