L322 current market, what to offer?

im looking at L322s at the moment, ideally after a Java Black V8, 02-03 ish and unmolested by the likes of silly alloys or extra shiny bits, am i right in thinking that people can barely give them away at the moment?, im quite interested in one on Autotrader which is advertised for £12k but it has done 80k miles, would i be taking the piss a bit to try and get it cheaper?, what would you guys offer on it with the market how it is?.

Its a buyers market at the moment,as no one wants them.Offer what you like.They can only say no.My mate with the LR business bought one from a customer.He didnt even want it,and paid a shade over £9000 for a 02 plate 4.4 Vogue.It now serves as the company hack carting spares about.

thats the link to thier website, i know you cant give them away at the moment and its done 80k miles, if i was to get that one i would be looking to pay about £10k for it and then the extra i have i can set aside for the bills to come.

the second is advertised in the PH classifieds for £14950 from a dealership called Speeds, personally i think its priced rather too high and would only be prepared to go to £12k on it, would you say they were reasonable enough offers on one at the moment?, as i say i dont want to take the piss but i see no point in paying over the odds for a car that just wont sell, the TD6 is also a huge no go for me as i will only be doing a few thousand miles per year in it as i have another car for commuting i would much rather enjoy the V8.

It looks a nice straight car.To be honest you are not going to get much off at a dealers.

Shop around a bit.There are plenty out there.Try some of the ones in the P.H classifieds.Some have been on there for months.Make an offer on some of them.One word of warning.Keep plenty in reserve for when they go wrong,which they do on a regular basis.Parts prices are still astronomical.

The yard at the moment is full of L322,s awaiting repairs.Range Rover is still king of the hill,but at huge cost.

i wont be using it everyday so hopefully that will reduce the bills slightly!!, im not put off at all by going privatly but finding a black Vouge for the right money seems to be a nightmare, i would consider blue or grey too but theyre the only other colours, also would you say buying on condition rather than milage on these is the best way as ive been pretty put off by higher milage ones when looking, to tell the truth 80k miles seems alot to me, but then i remember that you see P38s with starship milage still going and the 4.4 BMW engine is probably better than anyhing they fitted to the P38.

Dont be put off by the mileage.80,OOO is not a lot at all for one of these.Its a largely under stressed engine,and being the BMW engine doesnt suffer the porous issue,as with the previous P38.

But that the fact is LR only gives you a reduced warranty after 60k means that they get more expensive to fix after this time.

Yam haven't you being 'buying' one of these for the last couple of years. Just get on with it...............!

i always get put off by other cars, that and i worry about depreciation more than i should as i work in the car trade and think thats going to drop terribly soon, now that they have dropped terribly i dont have an excuse so im going to be going to look at a few this weekend , if anyone can give me some tips on what to look out for apart from:

air suspension
steering column
electrics all work including sat nav and a/c
general wear and tear, gearbox problems and anything you would look out for on a car anyway


i would be extremely grateful

YAM you therefore must realise that the reason why a car gets cheaper as it gets older is because it gets more expensive to run and maintain. Petrol is v cheap in comparison.

The Rangie is a prime candidate, why else would a £60k car now be £10k after 5 years?

The big Achilles heal of the LR322 is the front diffs. They will cost around £750+ to fix as the splines shear, rendering the car motionless.

I therefore would only by a Rangie with a full LR warranty, on a car with less than 50k miles. This will mean you need to spend >£20k. But of course you can buy a less expensive car and gamble on the fact i won't give you any problems. (I did this with a P38 RR and never needed anything other than a battery. Other mates went bankrupt running them!) My moto is, 'buy cheap, buy twice.'

All I can say is, buy one they are fabulous!

Front diffs are now a recall issue so no need to worry about the cost of this. Just the cost of the other stuff to worry about then. Was discussing used prices with BeeJay last night who has an early L322. Consensus was its a hell of a lot of car for the money at the moment and is a good buy if you want to and can afford to run one, so just do it. Buy one for 10K and run it till it the doors fall off and don't worry about depreciation.

ive looked at 2 this weekend, im happy enough to spend a bit more to find a decent one as the 2 i looked at were a little rough around the edges and one had an obvious problem with the steering column that the owner tried to play down so i made my excuses and left, i will find a decent one im not in a huge rush to buy so im going to make sure i buy the right one, a family member had one which i drove fairly often a while back and although it was sadly a TD6 and an HSE i know what lovely cars they are and cant wait to own one

always had a rr but could not justify one and went for a 90 fender xs, got most bits and bobs and hopefully not have the rr probs ! Of course it is black with ally all over the place and I have to say I prefer it.

Did the same.I was put off,by the big bills customers were walking away with from my mates place.(I share locks-ups with him on his premises)The bills were far bigger than they were on my previous P38.I would still have one though.But not as an every day vehicle.

I know mine is a P38 rather than an L322, but I spent the best part of a year looking for the "right" car.

I saw some absolute sheds that had been tarted up for sale, and also saw some well looked after cars that were just *too* much money.

The more you look at, the more you will get a feel for what is "right" on the car.

There are plenty of them out there, so you WILL find a good 'un at the right price eventually......

i know what you mean, for such a high end car some people really do treat them rather badly!!, i saw one on E bay today, a classified for £10500 and thought that looks cheap, the milage was reasonable too, unfortunatly it had been bdised with chrome everywhere and huge aftermarket wheels the suspension looked a bit high and it was hardly local so i think im going to give that one a miss, on the plus side i found a lovely looking 53 reg one on Autotrader that im going to arrange to have a look at later in the week
