Hello all,

I've just bought a 1991 Range Rover Classic with an LPG conversion and i've got a few questions.

1. How easy or how difficult is it to swap the cloth seats for leather, and were there ever manual adjustment seats made in leather? I've got a fear that the electric seats will pack in and cost me a small fortune.

2. Where can i get cheap front fog lights as both are chipped and where can i buy the headlamp protectors?

3. Has anyone got any experience of the Parrot RK8100 stereo/bluetooth unit, the one without the cd player but with the bit behind the flap for your ipod?

4. Is there any cheap way to firm up the handling without going down the overfinch suspension route?

5. Is there anything in particular that i need to watch out for on the car? It's had both a top and rear tailgate in the last 2 years and is pretty good body wise. Is it worth getting the car Waxoyled? TBH its never going to go off road that much (big city gayer here)

6. Any improvements that you think would make the car much better? Its bog standard ATM with just the gas conversion.

7. Where's the best place to get keys for the car? and is it possible to get another plipper for the immobiliser/alarm?

Sorry for all the questions but i just want a nice useable car thats not going to give me too many problems over the next few years.

Any help would be much appriciated

Duckworth landrover on Ebay usually have replacement remotes, programing them can be quite interesting though. Re: upgrades, apparently the Kompressor supercharger is a nice little addition. biggrin

It's an impulse buying descision on my part, was looking for an e34 BMW and ended up with a RR, well never mind.....

The one good thing is that its not got air suspension which im told can be a PITA.

I've enjoyed driving it today, plus it HAS to be more reliable than my old alfa spider.

One big plus over the alfa is the seat wasn't wet when i got in it this morning!

Big problem with these is overheating, so check coolant every week & top up immediately. They are prone to coolant leaks from various places, & blown head gaskets, and in the later 3.9 etc slipping liners & porous blocks. Sorting these problems is expensive, so keep an eye on the temp guage & act at the first sign of trouble. Don't run it low on coolant! Otherwise rot on the sills, inner wings & shocker turrets, & rear wheel arch near seat belt mount is main problem. Oh, and the headlining! Electrics are quirky. Make friends with an auto electrician, and don't be too surprised if you go to adjust the seats & the wipers come on - etc! Apart from those things, great motor: enjoy it!

Don't bother with Overfinch suspension. All they do is use Koni shocks and stiffer anti-roll bars. I have fitted Konis and anti-roll bars along with a quick ratio steering box (from Adwest engineering) and it has transformed teh old girl. Get the Konis from Rimmer brother or the like.

Yes, I used to own a 4.0 Disco V8 on LPG.

1) Fit a decent set of leads - I prefer Magnecor.

2) LPG is 114 octane with a slow flame front so you'll get far better performance and MPG if your ignition is quite heavily advanced when on gas. One of these does it automatically for you and transformed the way mine drove:

do the 3.5s and 3.9s suffer so much with the porous blocks? i thought it was only really the 4.6 where it seemed to happen.
