P38 4.0SE temperature gauge
Discussion
Hello,
This is my first post in this section as I normally lurk in the Scottish, Jaguar and Watches sections.
I also have a 2000 W reg 4.0SE Range Rover. I had a new battery earlier this week, which I think must be entirely coincidental but almost as soon as it was fitted the tempertaure gauge started to become erratic swinging wildly from normal to off the scale. Over the last couple of days it has developed and now goes stright up off the scale, and normally stays there, a few minutes after starting.
I guess this is the sender playing up?? Is this a common problem on this?
Any advice/knowledge gratefully received.
Thanks, Mark.

Get it looked at ASAP. Anything to do with cooling (whether it turns out to be sender, radiator etc) should make you nervous as any overheating can result in slipped liners and the infamous 'porous block' issue - I speak from expensive personal experience as for me it resulted in a destroyed engine. Still, there was an upside; I decided to have some fun and asked V8 Developments to build and fit one of their 5.3ltr engines - two years on it has been faultless and is immenely powerful :-)
The fact that it was eratic makes me think sender but what do I know?!
