Totally disagree & found the Td5 to be excellent in all respects for what it is.

Just remember that the "newest" Td5 will be at least 11 years old and the newest Tdi will be 18 years old.

Both are long in the tooth, especially when you could pick up a D3 with a new MOT & big bills recently paid for under £6k! Blows the older generations out of the sky IMHO!

Advert nothing to do with me though!

Is that not a function of supply & demand?

'000s of 200 & 300 Tdi's have been scrapped due to age/rust/engine transplants etc & Td5s by contrast are relatively plentiful right now.

Doubtless we will be mourning their demise in 10 years time...

Last "proper" LR engine etc.

I really hate this pig ignorant attitude that is sadly found in the LR world. The a TD5 is a brilliant engine and passed all military durability tests. It wasn't used because it couldn't be protected from electronic warfare. Something that is hardly an issue for normal road use.

And you do realise that a Disco1 or Range Rover Classic V8 have just as much electronic systems for the engine. And the latter 300Tdi's in a Disco 1 have an ECU controlled injector pump.

yes If you buy on condition then inevitably better Tdis are more desirable than knackered Td5s.

my 03 td5 is light years ahead of my (95my) 3.9vi d1 in every respect apart from the noise... and ive done 110k ( from 0) in my d2 rather than 40k ( from 70k) in my d2
probably why i still have it

I have a 1996 discovery 300tdi and a 2003 discovery td5 and the td5 is a far better engine than the 300. All the electrics that everyone goes on about is rubbish. both have BCUs which both have problems mainly with water ingress , if you have a higher spec d1 300 then both have abs (which both have their own problems) yes the td5 has a ecu but it's not a problem if anything it makes it easier to work on as you can plug it in and it tells you what's wrong.
