Hi All

I am after one of these beasts but having only owned series landys before, can anybody advise the main points to look out for on these? A few seem to have had manifold and cat issues, is this common? Also do you reckon its feasable to get one for around 8k in a decent condition yet?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

£8k will get you a ropey fairly high mileage example if you're lucky. Top of the shop you'll be looking at £17k from the likes of Nene or £14k private. Somewhere around £11k-£12k for a good private buy. They are rare and good ones even rarer so you pay for exclusivity.

Other than that they suffer from all the usual Defender issues although they are usually better looked after than say a farmers hack. Sunroof leaks can be a problem and the headlinings sag. Corrosion on the body in places is common steel and ally not a marriage made in heaven. make sure the engine has had regular and often oil changes. The LR V8 engine will quickly develop all sorts of issues, mostly terminal, if it doesn't get clean, good quality oil every 3k to 5k. The recommended service interval is 10k.

Good luck with your search. Once you get one you'll have lots of fun. They are peachy.

This is mine.

As,as already been said.£8k will get you a tired ropey example. You could be lucky and get a decent one. abaut really i would budget a bit higher.I'm about to sell mine as ive aquired a Hummer H2. It really is a lot of regret that i will be parting, and if i had the room, then it wouldn't be going.

The 50th really is the best of the Defender range. The combination of a nice 4.0ltr V8 coupled to a silky smooth auto box cant be beat........

I completely agree with the responses so far. Defenders tend to hold their value very well and because the 50th was a limited edition, they are worth a lot more to the right buyer and don't really seem to be depreciating.

My 50th is for sale for £9500 at the moment. I think it is worth more but it needs a service, MOT and tax in the next couple of months or so. Good luck with your search and let me know if you would like to take a look! smile

A shameless bump for my 50th that is currently for sale on PH and on eBay!

I am beginning to get slightly nervous about the eBay auction, which ends today in a couple of hours (eBay item number 290401288883). I was quite confident that it would fetch much more than the starting bid so I didn't bother with a reserve price. Unfortunately, I have had nothing but trouble with the listing for the last couple of days...

The highest bidder asked to cancel his bid because he reckoned his eBay account had been hacked and someone else had therefore bid from his account without his knowledge. This prompted the next highest bidder to retract his own bid because he had since bought another vehicle when he was been 'outbid' by the first chap. Inevitably, this prompted a flood of questions regarding the condition of the vehicle because everyone had seen two bids cancelled within minutes of each other!

I don't want to mess anyone around so I will honour the winning bid when the auction ends this afternoon. It looks like someone will get themselves an extremely cheap 50th at this rate.

Personally mate,i wouldnt have bothered with e-bay. You just seem to a have a different type of buyer there altogether. Normally messers.Ive been watching the auction myself and saw the two retracted bids. To those that dont know it would look like there was something wrong with the vehicle when there is not. The descrption regarding one of the retracted bids as "item not as described" is going to put people off.

You should have put that reserve on as the safety barrier. Mines going up in a couple of days. But like you said. It looks like someone might get a cheap 50th. But lets just hope there is a bidding frenzy in the last few minutes.

If you're that worried, just pull the auction, "sold locally" or whatever.

Sincere apologies for repeatedly hijacking this thread.

My 50th has now sold on eBay, as noted in previous posts.

Without wishing to state the obvious, I would definitely not recommend selling a vehicle on eBay unless you are absolutely desperate... and are prepared to put up with lots of hassle and people generally being unreliable. In the end, the car went to a dealer from West Sussex who was a pleasure to deal with and I am quite satisfied with the outcome.

I am moving abroad in less than a month and a needed to sell the Land Rover quickly, even if it meant not getting the best price for it. These are limited edition vehicles and therefore command a premium for the right buyer, but unfortunately I couldn't really wait that long. I am satisfied that I got a fair price under the circumstances and I hope it finds a new home with someone who can appreciate it.

Back on topic now... I see that BLUETHUNDER has his 50th in the PH classifieds and it looks a beauty!
