Yeah, hands up - did not look at the dates.

My opinion is for others thinking of purchasing tow tugs. I searched hard and long for information about tow tugs to replace the FL2 and there are plenty. As far as the FL2 is concerned it is an SUV, I really could not find anything as good to replace it however, I did not want another FL2 due to the customer care and problems I had encountered.

My neighbour has a Volvo XC90, I had never considered a Volvo before, my neighbour let me borrow their 18 month old XC90 and boy was I impressed. Like a previous post I had heard about the fuel and tyre problems so decided to look elsewhere. Then I managed to borrow an XC70 demonstrator for several hours and give it a good workout with my family on board. They were sold on the build and comfort of the Volvo hence the purchase and hence the post.

It is not intended to offend, like I said the FL2 is good. In this instance I found the Volvo to be better. I have just come back from Germany with all of my luggage and a complete inflatable that I bought in Germany in the back of the car - is just could not have happened with the FL2 and despite the weight, still managed 125 mph - it was rock solid.

It is interesting to see the different experiences people have. I have a friend who had terrible trouble with an XC90 (was fine up to around 100,000 miles and then started costing lots of money. I had an S60 (admittedly a petrol) that had loads of electrical issues and left me stranded a few times (the only car in years to do that to me).

Hard to compare the 3 cars being discussed - xc90 / xc70 and FL2 are very different cars that are aimed at different markets. I'd have no reservations about the 70 or an FL2. I'd guess you would get a great discount on an FL2 with Disco Sport just about to replace it (which looks a fabulous car)

Exactly that, a new replacement Freelander is on the horizon - hence my reason to move to a completely different vehicle. For those stalwarts of the marque who insist that the Freelander is money in the bank, just look at the glee of those salesman who offer reduced valuations to the Freelander all of a sudden being obsolete, the replacement vehicle will be in so much demand that very little if any discount will be available. Land Rover do it all the time.

I can see the sales people rubbing their hands already, so line up and be prepared to lose cash!

Before respondents brashly and defensively outline the no doubt free fall values of the XC70 - as previously discussed I got such a good discount my lose will fall within expected parameters. If I decide to sell of course, but hey oh, rather impressed with it at the moment!

For the 2nd hand market, there will be bargains galore.

Happy motoring.

Indeed, I believe the XC90 is named so due to the design being 90 years old and the 70 in the XC70 being the average age of the driver.

The FL2 is by no means perfect, but it looks cutting edge against those two ancient relics from Volvo!

Re: your comments on values of the FL2 and its replacement, Ive no idea what you're on about. My FL2 has lost a HUGE amount of money compared to list price, but then I didnt pay list price and anyone that did in the last couple of years is a mentalist.
