MarsellusWallace said: I hate the way the packages now include bundled spaces for cars under £1000-no trader I know sells cars of that value anymore and you can bet AT know this. The Autotrader believe this is an increasing market, 95% of my cars have a profit margin of over £1000 so naturally this wasn't a big selling point for me, and I don't want to be associated with selling very cheap cars which is why I requested that I should be able to use these slots for my motorbikes, but she's looking into having these slots showing under a different name as we have a company we use solely for trade to trade which I could use the 5 slots for to off load cheapies and motorbikes. If they can do that for me then for the small increase, I'd be quite happy.

I currently pay £2000 a month to Autotrader and sell 5/6 cars a month from it and get the sort of customer service associated with the VAT MAN so obviously enough is enough and rightly or wrongly I cancelled my contract, I pay e bay £165 a month and sell 3 a month from it, so i need another couple of sites like e bay, where does anybody else get results from?? motors.co.uk, exchangeandmart, piston heads etc any ideas/comments greatly appreciated I'm with you on this, and seriously thinking of going. I'm also with Autoweb.co.uk which give you a nice web site and 50 or so slots for around £100 per month.

I'm a much smaller establishment than PCD but i list my cars on gumtree. I relist them each morning to save on the fees, and i generally have 10-15 cars per day. I remove the previous days. I sell maybe 20 cars a month and i'd say 50% of them come from gumtree. The last two of the nine pictures in the adverts i have jpegs about us and links to my site in the pics. It is very price driven though. Theres a local site i used over here in northern ireland - www.usedcarsni.com which costs me £50 a month for 12 slots with £1 per car charge for the magazine, published fornightly.

Gum tree is a waste of time if you want strong retail money for your cars, it's best suited for people trading from home etc who have smaller margins.

I have one window with the previous ad open, then one window for the new ad. Just a cut and paste exercise really. I do it about half seven in the mornings and is now part of my daily routine.

Yup. plus i make any mods to my website and to my cars on usedcarsni at that time too, so i can have relisted all my gumtree ads, added any new cars to my website, etc, and reviewed all my cars in less than an hour.

Dont agree...We have got the same money (and managed to sell) a host of cars that have been on AT....Not saying GT is the new selling god, but for not much £££ it is ok. IMO Ebay is a difficult medium to get "proper" money from unless it is a bit different. (we just got great money for a Rolls Royce and a Hymer motorhome on Ebay)

I agree, we car nuts tend to go to the same old sites, but Mr & Mrs Joe Bloggs will often just do a Google search for the car that they want. They're quite good on the Google search. Put in 'Black BMW for sale' or some such, and it will pop up on the first page, along with AT,PH, Motors etc... It tends to be more geographically centred. Works for me and is cost effective.

I'm not sure if many people do do that. IME the average punter, (in order of likelihood): 1. Return to a previously used dealer, or a dealer recommended by family/close friend. 2. Ask the bloke at work/neighbour/mechanic who 'knows about cars' which dealers or websites they should be using (and if they asked me, I wouldn't recommend autoweb because I've never heard of them) 3. Go to a dealer they drive past each day who is well established (even if they don't have a recommendation) 4. Look in the local paper/local shop noticeboard 5. Accesses a range of known online resources and is open to travelling somewhat further for the right car 5. Perform random Google searches For most people, all they know is that they want a 'car'
