So, does that mean I can't, say, start washing cars as I have previous car cleaning experience?!
Did you have to pay for training? Did you pay more than £20 for the bucket and sponge? See my example which mentioned CIM qualifications.

However, if this challenge permits your request, then I'm not running this so you may wash cars.

It has probably cost more than £20 in supplies learning how to wash cars?!

I'm not trying to be a tt, just that my thoughts are that using previous experience would be more interesting!

I know what you mean but there have to be rules somewhere - that's the point I'm making. As to what they are, that's up to the OP or anyone else who wants to write the rules.

Good luck.

I've discovered 'mailing' bags for sale on ebay. I think I will try to sell a few of the books in one of my bubble envelopes then purchase mailing bags for selling a few more.
If it was me I would just buy a roll of that brown packing paper and a roll of tape, and wrap the notebooks like a christmas present, I think they'd survive being damaged.

The problem is that apart from buying and selling stuff, what else can you do with £20?
TBH I do agree to an extent. I think a £100 challenge may be better as you can do so much more and I am sure almost all of us on here could spare £100.

I'd be up for a £100 challenge, it would open up a few more opportunities and the chance for things to get rolling a bit quicker than starting with £20.

I can see the rules, particularly any 'pre-existing' skills, subscriptions or assets, being a bit of a sticking point though.

Ok, what do other's think? If there's enough I'll start a thread. We don't need too many rules, perhaps:

Not gambling as that's not business in the sense we are discussing
It must be a start up
....

I'm up for joining. I've been thinking about what I can do with £20, £100 opens it up abit more.

I agree that keeping it reasonably open will give people more options. For example, use of a laptop and internet access should be a given.

What about software like Photoshop or website hosting accounts that people may already own but would prove useful to their business?

I think regarding 'rules', then it really does just need to be based on the spirit of the whole thing. It's a bit of fun (albeit with a serious intention) aiming a at viable way for anyone to make a bit of spare cash. The question is, could someone else recreate the business that you have made, without significant expenditure or training. That said, even that rule should be bent a little if someone has an interesting business model.

They really do need to teach this sort of thing at schools (when the teachers aren't on strike)! wink

Anyway, ok, I'll post up a start thread and see how it goes...

Suddenly, I'm thinking of the film "Risky Business".

Cheers for the idea.
I've bought a pack of two rolls of Brown Parcel Tape (Aprox. 48mm x 30m each) for a quid from Poundworld. I've also bought a roll of brown paper from Poundland (8 metres x 50 cm) - cost £2.
Assets:
>Job lot of un-ruled exercise books/ jot pads.
>Four overpriced bubble wrap envelopes.
>A free Wilkinson's carrier bag.
>A free Poundworld carrier bag.
>A used glass jar.
>1 quid.

I can't justify the time worthy for the £100 challenge at the momment so will be sticking with this.

My tester items will go on ebay as a free auction listing tonight.
It cost me 6 pence for a scheduled listing.

Money-wise, I'm now on 94p.

I have just joined these forums and spotted this, I am running something similar at the moment as a personal challenge. Because of the business I am in I started with a cheap old phone, repaired it and sold for 30, I have continued this process to the point where I have just spent £420 on 35 dysons that I will refurb and sell on. Once these are sold I will keep all the money in the pot and just keep going.

In my opinion the only way to make this work is to add value to whatever you buy, and double your money, and finally just keep reinvesting....
