I'd like to add my business to the £100 challenge.

I am currently making telemetry transmitters for the falconry industry.

Started with my own transmitter and reverse engineered it. Improved on the design and added in some features not on the current line of transmitters.

Prototype is going well and i hope to be able to start producing the finished product next week in small numbers. Current outlay £35 for materials.

I have a friend making the casing in the machining shop where he works for the cost of the aluminium bar. Everything else is either sourced via maplin or the internet.

I will update with full costings next week (is well under £100). Once i have sold a few i intended to start building my own receivers and yagi's.

Good Luck all

Hi spikey,

What kind of testing equipment? I have a luksander receiver and yagi. If you have anything else on either 173/433mhz that'd be great for testing. I only have 216mhz smile

Started my business for under £100.

Am a shop fitter/joiner by trade. And I seen how much the cleans were making for a days work for not a lot of 'hard' work. So decided to set up my own little commercial cleaning company, all done properly registered etc.

So bought all the chemicals, a few mops, buckets, rags etc. And done my first job, made £650 off the job, about £450-500 ish after tax, materials etc. if I remember right. Done a few more jobs over 6 months, no advertising or anything, just through people I know asking about wanting stuff cleaned. And am a perfectionist so always spend that wee bit long making sure everything is 100%.

Now I have just over £2000 in my business account after everything is paid and up to date, so going ok for not trying to get any work at all. Just being used to make a bit of extra money for my savings.

But today I decided to take it seriously because am getting fed up with my current job. So have been designing a logo for the last from weeks in my spare time, made a quick web site, signed up to google places and yell.com, and have just ordered 5000 flyers, and some business cards and going to see how it goes.

Only looking at commercial cleaning, windows, one off, end off tenancy, and builders cleans.

So will just need to see were it goes from here biggrin
For thought I would add to this. It kind of went on the back burner, after we started getting more work, but now the work has dried up again for the next month or 2 anyway rolleyes So going to put all of my time on this.

Have made a simple site, trying to SEO it with my google places the best I can. Have got 10,000 leaflets made up, 5000 of commercial and 5000 for domestic window cleaning. Just about to buy all the stuff to get started with a WFP system (water fed pole) And am trying to get some workwear/uniform with my logo made up and take it from there. And see were is goes biggrin

I've seen a few of those sites, but I don't think that PH is the best place to advertise them smile

PH is very high in Google, so a link in your profile and a carefully worded post is a good way to advertise for free wink.

You can be subtle about it. For instance...

I am a plumber in Birmingham and could help with your problem.

Check out Google in a few days and see if Plumber in Birmingham is a hit on this page.

Not sure if I can join in but I thought I would mention this thread made me have a go.

I ran my own upholstery business for 10 years and chipped it in to go traveling which lead to me 3 years later in the 2nd year of my history degree to become a teacher.

So now middle aged with a much lower income for the time being, I read this thread and thought if I put effort into a hobby that earnt me money as opposed to sitting on my arse watching TV, it would be a good use of my time.

So I thought about what I wanted to do rather than what would make me the most money, wanted to ideally learn something as well.

Came up with engines, I would like to know more about them, how they work etc. Next step where would you begin? Lawnmower engines seemed the obvious one.

So I bought one that didn't run, played with it, took it apart, serviced it, put it back and the little puppy ran. Bought it for £26 and sold it for £75. So I went bit silly and know have 5 mowers in my workshop/shed. Paid around £20-30 each for them. Bringing them up to working order and selling them soon.

So like I said, new financial year so I figured I would play along and let you guys know my progress if I am allowed. If not, wanted to say this thread got me of my arse and getting greasy with engines. So thanks
