Shall we say 1st of October as a start date? Gives people a couple of weeks to sort themselves out, think of ideas, get necessary permission (New POD).
Sounds good to me. End 31st march?

Are teams allowed in the rules? Would two people get £100 or £200 to start with?
I'd say that in the spirit of this its something to do on your own with £100.

Wanna update the rules since I think it's your challenge whether you intended this or otherwise. biggrin

Also, what equipment we can use and whether a lawyer setting up an ambulance-chasing internet-based firm is allowed or not.

I could sell you 500 shrimps for £15 !! livefishfood.co.uk
To be fair, I'll be breeding red cherry shrimp which have a slightly higher value than river shrimp - but I may well be putting an order in at some point with you once I have some space to store more aquatics.

Doh! It's our thread really but I'll keep an eye on it/moderate it/answer questions where needed.

Its a very "well worn" sofa.

Potental earnings of "$1000 to $5000" a day though smile

I'm in.

Privat English unterricht....or Private English lessons....here in Austria! i was planning on starting this properly after my Holiday anyway, and I already have most of the materials needed to successfully teach privately.

I'm qualified as a TEFL teacher, the only thing I havent got are the students...yet!

So my plan is this:

500 leaflets- free (I have a printing friend)
5weeks presence in the Local paper- £75
Selling to hotels- Luckily my FiL runs a hotel here and knows all the local hotelliers, so I will be taking a trip with him to see the owners. The idea here being we sell them a hotel-centric English package- free.

I return from Holiday next week, so I will keep you all updated with how I get on!
That is a great idea. In fact; that has much more potential than you realise. With your FiL's connections - you could really build something. I'd also advertise for other TEFl teachers and get an academy going perhaps. Take a cut of each teacher's hourly rate or something. Just a thought.....

End date?

I suppose we should declare profit (or loss) at a given point, but if somebody actually makes a legitimate go of it, an end date is a bit odd, no?

I think it's more a case of declaring your profit or loss on 31st March. You don't have to pack up just because the game's come to an end! We'll all be millionaires I tell you; millionaires!

I lost £50 the other week at the dogs gambling. Could I declare that loss to the taxman and then say it was a business I was a professional gambler for a day?

End date is just for the competition. If it's going great, would be silly not to continue.

Bit of a nightmare with my £100 idea

http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail...

I need to register my premises and record and pay duty. I'm not sure they'll want to register my 6 foot square spare room as a brewery.
Looking at the link you posted you can make and sell up to 7000 litres of Cider and Perry without paying duty (although you do need to still register).

http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kb5/hmrc/forms/view.pag...

Or how about real lemonade or other non alchoholic recipes.

Can someone tell me what the sofa thing is all about? I get the feeling I'd quite like to know...

Stop playing innocent, I'd be willing to bet there isn't an internet savvy bloke in the world who doesn't recognise that sofa.

Are there any rules about doing this multiple times? I have 2 or 3 ideas that would lend themselves very well to this type of thing. Obviously its more work on my part but is it allowed?

Nope, no clue. But I want to know. Ta.

Hah! Tineye to the rescue. Is that sofa a regular on that site then?
