i managed to win a recent paypal dispute as a seller of a used phone apparently due to this clause:
"The item had been used, which meant it was not covered by paypal."

Often it will depend on who you speak to at paypal.
Part of the reason i won was I had a person follow up off his own back after I had originally lost the dispute

Glad you got your money back. I have had fair bit of experience with ebay/paypal and disputes. The worst thing is charge back when the buyer claims they never made the transaction. The bank takes the money straight back off Paypal. You get a chance to submit evidence but they then charged an extra fee on top.

One to watch for is random letters sent to you tracked. I share a business unit and my friend who sells fairly expensive car tuning parts. He received a letter with nothing but a bit of toilet paper in it (clean). Roll on 3 weeks later a paypal dispute and wanted to return the item. The tracking number he entered was that of the envelope. It shows delivered right away and a refund is processed. He did manage to get this one sorted though with evidence of the delivery date and photos of the envelope.

Refusing to sign for a delivery does not work either. I recently returned 20kg of phone cases to China, They refused to sign on 2 different days. Paypal said a delivery has been attempted and i got my money back. Again i was the buyer in this case.

I have been selling on ebay since it begun and running a business for 3 years. The amount of scammers has gone up and expectations of buyers has gone up, i think due to Amazon and the service they offer. I have customers demanding i send a courier to collect a £7 phone case because they bought the wrong fitment. Its never ending. biggrin
