The £100 business start up challenge 2013-2014
Discussion
Wifey and I have joined in this year almost within the time. I think we still count, as despite a start-up in October, Wife has been ill (pancreatitis) for the last 6 weeks, so no business activity - hope this is allowed as we're really keen to be involved
Set-up an on-line costume jewellery shop. We've even managed to get a display cabinet in a local hair salon
So far costs are just under £100 (inc 2nd-hand cabinet)
But it's beginning to take off - party season, and the display cabinet has wedding stuff in it too
Done a website, but I'm not happy with it yet, so in the meantime she's got a facebook page:

This is a real learning curve for us!

We're in - http://velogps.com/. Niche site providing reviews and guides on cycling GPS solutions. Lots of content still needs to be fed to the site over coming weeks. We're passionate about cycling and enjoy our tech so thought we'd run with this. Not expecting miracles from adsense (especially when our latest post seems to pull in adverts for toasters lol) - will also be putting up a donate option to try to support keeping the site running.
Keeping the motoring theme alive checkout our ken_box post - 1st saw this on Pistonheads and still trying to tell myself i'm not too old !
Feel free to have a look around / like us on facebook - will help bump us up google search rankings. If anyone knows how to get my Adsense sidebar ads to centre that would be appreciated.
Hopefully above posting is ok given this is in context for the topic and others have posted up direct links.
Liking the look of your 'sosparkly' stuff Dano. Reminds me that I have several k's worth of quality Tanzanite still to shift. Invested with a good friend many years ago - trouble is you need buyers who appreciate just how beautiful Tanzanite is and can look beyond the usual premium stones (as well as being prepared to spend a few thousand on a piece). It really is a lovely gemstone - this has nudged me into action to get another piece made up and back in the jewellers window.
Good luck all !

Recently bought a 100k miler 1.7 Ford Puma with a non running engine for £100. I have thought about sorting the engine but by the time I mot and tax it too I think I'm better off breaking it on ebay. Does that count?
It better, would be interested hom much you can get back on that.I want to do that one day for fun, I love taking things apart!

Ok. Pity the engines likely to be FUBAR as that's a big part of what I would get back. Gearbox and fixings willI want to do that one day for fun, I love taking things apart!
be the main income. I can drag it to the scrap yard for at least £100 back at when I'm done. The alloys are pretty mint too.

Funnily, if you just sold the alloys for £100 and the rest for scrap as £100, you've already doubled your investment.
Yeah I bought it from a workmate and it's already outside our workshop anyway. He lucked out and bought an mx5 for the same amount. It had a few bits on it but was rotten so he sold the hardtop (£300), new unused full poly bush kit (£100) and a aftermarket manifold (£200). He then sold what was left to someone at £200 for parts!Welshbeef said:
How about buying broken Dyson hoover buying loads and making good ones from broken ones.
Could also do this with LCD or plasma TVs gumtree or similar pick up dirt cheap items most think they are scrap but maybe but two ruined ones and get one perfectly good working one and sell on.
Most flat screen TVs are fixed easily enough by replacing the crap electrolytic caps. The do need to be PAT tested before sale.Could also do this with LCD or plasma TVs gumtree or similar pick up dirt cheap items most think they are scrap but maybe but two ruined ones and get one perfectly good working one and sell on.

Exactly dead easy to fix for those who know how most don't have a clue and will happily take £15-20 for a 46" PAT testing really if your selling one item on eBay? Or do you mean setting up a registered comp in which case agreed.

If it's just a one off then no problems, but start selling a few and they really need PAT testing if they are mains powered and not double insulated.
Fair enough. I'm not skilled enough to do either TV or Hoover I'd rather make home made cider apples from the garden free have 8 big apple trees most go into the compost currently - already have all the kit needed to make cider and have free access to a press
Or
A car washing and lawn cutting service for very local streets where I could push lawn mower round - lawnmower is free as I own three and if possible if use the electric one so no petrol cost
Or
One hobby if I had the time to write a thriller Novel - only need pen and paper or the laptop but likelihood of earning any income from it questionable at best.
