Shipping equipment to the USA

Hi,
A company we have worked with before (in the UK) want to hire some of our equipment. There is a complication this time in that they want it to be delivered to them to a location in the USA so that another group can familiarise themselves with it there before taking it on an expedition.
The kit in question is a laser scanner that fits in s protective case the size of a suitcase, plus some associated items in 2 or 3 smaller cases. Insurance value is approx. £80k
My colleague is anticipating problems with US customs and is reluctant to say we can help this time.
Does anyone have experience of shipping things over there for the purposes of hire?
