Yeah the big Tesco is just up the road from it.

Which one past the hospital? Which road? There's a few around there!

ETA: For those talking about turnover Vs profit, that's irrelevant. I'm not interested in how profitable the business is, I was just somewhat surprised at the how much the locals are putting through there weekly.
Ok the one Im thinking of is opposite some shops. Its like you go up a road to the hospital from the town. This road starts at that no 3 crown carvery place I mentioned. Then you get to a big roundabout you turn either 1st right if you want to go into the hospital grounds and car park areas OR 2nd right if you want to go on the road that goes past the hospital and past the big park. If you continue just going over the roundabout you go down then up a hill and the pub is on the right and the shops on the left. Then the road sort of veeers left and you can then go on into Poulton.
Could the pub be the staining ? or something.

Not exactly a pub,but Novikov in Mayfair ,which is 2 restaurants and a bar in Berkeley street
does about £800k a week, £40,000,000 a year.
That's astonishing! A Giant ASDA would be doing well to get to those figures.

Not really - the big out of towners for both Tesco and Sainsbury do north of £1M/week....

Their rent would be less than Mayfair too.

That's what I'm saying. So a Restaurant with a similar turnover to my mind is astonishing, but then my days of eating out at that level are for the moment gone.

might even be more than that

given a 'full' big trolley can be 200-300gbp worth just of normal groceries ...

Novikov's parent company is outside the UK and it isn't easy to get a full picture of its accounts

There was an article about the owner done a while back quoting figures which when you did some math = circa 700k/week.

Okay found it: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/r...

"The 540-seater establishment takes more than £100,000 in sales everyday, according to Novikov, who said around a third of the £35-million-a-year turnover is profit."

Well if you assume an expenditure of £100 a trolley in a supermarket you need 10,000 to hit £1,000,000, easily achievable in even a small supermarket.

I've no idea how big Novikov is, but 500 people at an average of £200 each would get there, however that would need a lot of Crystal drinking to get the figure that high.

Lunch. Dinner and evening drinks. Monday to Friday. Although the 1/3rd profit sounds like bs.

Mind you-the owner is just another Russian with connections to the kremlin and an unexplained history on where his money came from.

The quote was something along the lines of 800-900 covers with a average spend between eighty and one hundred pounds.

I guess the economic situation in Russia did his business no harm in the 90's - a lot of Russians made a lot of money - but apparently he is backed by investors as well.

Interesting - I wonder if he factors in the cost of the capital to own the buildings in to the profit calcs?

Should he also figure in the rise of property value as that has been outstripping most other investments in recent times?

That makes the ROCE calculations quite interesting!

Also, could he make more by re-mortgaging the pubs and using the cash for other things....? Potentially lots of opportunities.
