Hi All

I am new to this forum, im in the motortrade pretty much still building the foundations.
Where would you guys sugguest is the best place for buying stock, i struggle finding stock on a regular
basis.. I sell used cars up to the 4k mark mainly diesels with mileage up to 130k mark.
Or could any trader on here supply me with thier px stock at trade prices. I am interested in building contact with bigger dealers out there. I usually stock up to 10 cars a month. Buy from bca sometimes but thier prices are ridiculous majority of the time...

Hope to hear back from you guys

Regards

I have a feeling that there is a 'secret' dealers sub forum on here; contact a mod and see if you can get access to that and i'm sure they'll be some friendly regulars that will help you out.

Good luck,
D.

No, it is a group on Linkedin, there are so few of them they could hold any meetings in a telephone box.

There is no stock about, well good stock, my customers are travelling literally the length of the country just to get one car, one had jacked in because of the stress of this, after all he's a dealer not a driver. Plus the cost of running a car transporter eating into profits etc it's not rocket science

My next door neighbour is a trader. He is at a similar end to the market as you. He buys bulk Part Ex motors from our local main dealers (basically the stuff they do not want) - so therefore he has some gems but also a lot of dross. Typically, this will be in batches of three or four cars at a time. He is a one man band with a small pitch (6 cars plus others parked around the area) and obviously makes a living from this but he is never going to be a millionaire!

His stock this year has varied from 7 series BMW, 1963 midget, mk1 Focus RS, Alfa Spider to pug 406s, Hyundai Amicas and Ford Kas. It really is a mixed bag but he generally shifts stuff within three weeks. Although he has had a Lancia Thema kicking around for at least 18 months (although I have not seen it recently??)

He only advertises in the local news paper- but obviously it works for him. He is an honest guy and seems to have a lot of repeat custom (selling cars for £700 is always going to bring back customers when it comes to the next MOT time, I suspect??)

Thanks for your advice appreciate it, ive contacted a few main dealers in my area but they mainly send thier cars to auctions.
I wouldnt mind getting cheaper stuff just need constant flow of stock. Could you find out from him which dealer he uses or which dealers would be looking to trade out thier stock? If there is any branches in lancashire i could posibly try having a word with them and hopefully get some stock of them.

I live on the Isle of Wight, so it might be a slightly different market here. Main dealers may not want the cost of transporting cars on the ferry to the mainland to auction them?? The main dealers he sources from are Ford, Nissan and Peugeot (that I know of.....). I think the 'bulk' buying of part ex cars is attractive to the main dealers locally - just takes any hassle out for them, so almost doing them a service....

I doubt any of the main dealers here have branches in Lancashire??

Good luck!

Why do you think he'd want to tell you his business plan?

It's just a case of travel around the country to buy stock at half decent prices.

Some auctions are better than others. Most larger groups will have group policy to only auction stock and you will have no chance of getting hold of it.

17 hour day completed - that's the motor trade.

Most main dealers send thier trade ins to auction to prevent backhanders and fraudulent activity between sales managers and thier chosen traders. As ever a few prople spoil what was a good system.
