I was thinking more about razors if it's going to be a traditional barber.

I once got a haircut in Dallas Airport and sen the service offered at a few other places. Not sure you would get away with it in the UK airside due to security.

Surely the biggest 'No' to this is the pressure of time and and delays it could cause?!

"Final call for traveller PurpleTurtle for the 0755 to Amsterdam!"

"Sorry, he's just getting shampoo'd!! We'll be quick though, can you hang on just a minute? Something for the weekend, Sir?

Scissors will be the very least of your worries.

Need to run some numbers and see what you'll need to take.

The start up costs and need to show a trading history to convince he landlord would be major obstacles.

Don't worry 'Sixer me old mucker, you'll be first to be invited! smile

BTW in my case that should've been "Sorry, we've just put the dye on, needs time to take"

ETA

Ignore the sharp objects bit. Just had my first morning coffee and am thinking a bit more now. Food places have knifes so it might not be as much of an issue.

The food outlets have useless knives, yes metal but of no safety risk... maybe safety scissors would be allowed....

The Virgin lounge at Heathrow has a hairdressers and massage area amongst other things. Obviously it's free if you are there on an Upper Class ticket, but if you have to pay the pricelist is here:

As mentioned above, personally I could think of nothing worse than having your hair cut just before a flight, unless I had a change of shirt in my hand luggage.

There's also one in Munich Airport. It's was a proper barbershop type thing - looked very nice.

If I was travelling on business it's definitely something I'd consider, but not when with the family or friends. I'd pay £30.

Given that barbers seem to have disappeared from railway stations in recent years, I'd not be too optimistic about having them in airports.

Actaully, why has that happened? There used to be barber shops in loads of railway stations.

To be fair, there are barbers in airports all round the world; it's very common in the US.

Mine too, but it still doesn't seem to stop hair shavings getting inside the collar and itching like hell. Wouldn't want to spend several hours on an aeroplane like that.

If it such a dead cert money maker, why are there not barber shops at every major international airport already?

I have had a cut in the Virgin lounge before (free) , but I did have a shower after and get changed before onward travel. I wouldn't want to be laid in bed for 10 hours on a flight after a hair cut....would need a wash n dry after

I cant see it myself ...I pay a fiver for a trim every 4-6 weeks at the village hairdresser...30 mins of my life including getting there/back smile

This.
But if part of the deal was a wash too that wouldn't be an issue. Someone must have tried this in the past, do some googling...

Why not just try the massage bit instead. There is a 'stand' in Westfield offering I think 15-30 mins and doesn't take up a lot of space. Also saw a full on shop in changi airport in Singapore many years ago and that was constantly full

I think it could work. The rent issue isn't so bad, because it doesn't need to be fully on the prime retail frontage, it just needs a good enough "front door". First floor windowed space and a good entrance might work well, for example.

I'd pay £30 for a haircut in an airport - anything to alleviate the boredom.

To be even more fair there are barbers in every village, town and city in every country on the planet. 99% of them charging considerably less than one in an airport. Why not get the haircut when you arrive?

I've had my hair cut in several countries. It's a bit of a lottery dependent on language but it's not likely to be a disaster. And there's always the no guard option if it is. FFS man up, get it done in a foreign backstreet and put the thought of paying £30 (for a fking haircut?) to bed.

£30 haircuts mean you are in a hairdressers.

Whatever you do don't open one in Glasgow. It wouldn't last five minutes.

Hourly takings need to be bloody high to justify the rent charges and other overheads you get in an airport.
No chance of it being feasible.
