I'm looking to get a 'Virtual Terminal' so I can start taking Credit/Debit card payments over the phone... Do any of you have any experience of these and any recommendations?

At the moment I would say I will be doing fairly minimal amounts of transactions by card over the phone in terms of volumes and value.

So far I've spoken to Worldpay, Paymentsense and Paypal and have done an application for SagePay.

Fees and costs seem to vary quite a lot, some charge set up fees, plus monthly charge and then the transaction fees range from 1.6%-3.4% on CC and 20p-40p for DC..

Anything I should watch out for such as delays for payments going into my account etc?

All new to me so any advice is welcome!

Thanks.
Ollie

I use the virtual terminal facility offered with the Worldpay Zinc card reader payment system.
The transaction costs are higher than you would get for a traditional merchant account but if you are doing low volumes that should not be a problem.

The charges on debit and credit cards are:
No monthly fee 2.75% per transaction
£5.99 monthly fee 1.95% per transaction
If you do over £750 per month then the £5.99 (1.95%) deal would be better

The funds usually reach my account after about 2 days and the transaction fees are charged monthly.

Currently there is an offer on the Worldpay Zinc chip & pin keypad of £69.99
To get this deal you can follow this referal link:

I Use a regular terminal with Global Payments costs around £20 per month rental plus 11p per debit card 1.1% for credit cards and then addd ons for funny cards. Barclays are also competitive, but be very careful of which merchant service provider you sign up with, there are sharks bout. Google them for reviews. I told a cold caller that his company review was so st that he should seriously think about working for someone else
Virtual terminals cost around the same but you run into all sorts of security issues with computers and access.
For only a few transactions it's much easier and more versatile to use a proper machine, you can get them with a sim card in for about a fiver a month extra, as you're taking phone orders, just keep it simple

Interested in this too, doing a search WorldPay Zinc stands out. As alternatives, anybody using intuit or sumup?

Join the FSB and take advantage of their rates with Streamline. The annual membership charge is less than the savings made and there's extra benefits as well, (including free insurance and help lines, junk mail and other members' cold calling)
I remembered one of the names to avoid, who would use these people ? Remember, it's all in the small print.
