Hello everyone. I'm currently looking at sending out a monthly newsletter for my business, and wondered if anyone had any advice about using MailChimp.

The query i have is regarding the database im using and sending out emails. I don't want to get 'blacklisted' as a spammer if possible. The customers details i have are from when they have bought a product from my website, but haven't opted in to receive marketing material.

Any advice is appreciated.

I've started blocking at the server level these mass spamming companies including dotmailer etc.

Sick of them.

"but haven't opted in to receive marketing material" - well you can't market to them then, and if you are honest you will not be able to use mailchimp to do so (it requires you to agree that you have permission to market to the data you upload to it).

Sort your website out so you generate opted in data and build a list from there.

Mailchimp is a great tool though.

I believe that as long as you have an unsubscribe button, it doesn't matter if they have opted in or not.
I stand to be corrected.

Though who in practice ever clicks it, because all it says is 'woohoo live e-mail address, send more spam'?

I don't like mailchimp I find Aweber and GetResponse to be much better.

My T&Cs of sale say we may occasionally send marketing materials. I've used Mailchimp successfully to do so but only 3-4 times a year.

You wont be blacklisted as the emails are sent out from Mailchimp, but tbh I wouldnt use it as you dont have opt in from the email addresses you've harvested. Not that it's particularly bother me, it's just that the amount of either unsubscribes or bounces you'd get would probably trigger a setting in Mailchimp that'd stop you using it again. Half or more of your mail would probably go unsent as well.

Find / acquire legit data and use that or use an unwanted/unused email address on your domain
