What makes you think he's only running one length?

Universal Networks have armoured CAT5e & CAT6 cable:

No idea how you make it off though.

If you are going more than 90m odd then you could look at media converters & do it in fibre:

This would also eliminate any electrical connection between the two termination points.

Try these guys, it isn't cheap though and not many people do it. 90m maximum run.

It's a very specific use. 500m isn't a problem for what I need it to do.

Whilst CATx, it's not to be used as an ethernet connection.

500m roll to save having a joint in the cable if we can avoid it.

It won't be cheap - currently we're at about £700 + VAT, but could do with reducing that a bit if at all possible.

Media converters to fibre won't work with our application frown

Thanks for the suggestions chaps.

I will ask my supplier tomorrow, will it be going to a mainland address? Andy

Yes it would be, and I appreciate that. If you could drop me a PM I'd be most grateful.

I've used it on oil and gas plants before to run a CAT5 connection out to building for a remote device which doesn't support fibre.

No choice to use media convertors as it was in an explosion proof case so no more additions.

Still intrigued why he needs 500 in a single run. That's the job as folks have said of fibre.

I've used it for all sorts of signal & applications: RS422, KVM, digital intercom, video. None of these are limited to 90m.
