I have my own small design and build firm... Everything in the photo (bar the furniture) is my responsibility, from first meeting with client to sweeping up at the end and everything in between. On this one there's a small pool beyond the far screen. Took this last Christmas before it was fully finished (hence just a camera phone snap), when I had to nip in while client was away (hence children) to check everything OK with new Pool.
Trained as an architect, got bored of sitting behind a desk very quickly. Moved in to oak frames from furniture. Once I set out on my own it grew quickly from there. Expanded rapidly a few years ago, was a total nightmare because I like having things done my way and I'm a bit of a fussy knob-head, not very good at explaining what I want and I now don't believe it's really possible to get it anyway without doing it yourself (I mean with your own hands) - no disrespect to the mock mansion crew. Currently going back to one job at a time so I can be on one site full time again. On a good day it's the best job. Can be drafting designs or meeting new clients in the morning, laying foundations or roofing in the afternoon.

Not part of my usual business but made this last week for a friend of mines "music room". A complete one off special, he has been wanting a "wall of speakers" for years but couldn't find anything to buy.
Speakers, one down 15 more to go. The original "master" I machined in 3D, my colleague CAD modelled to look exactly like a speaker. We then took a relief mould in a special material, then hand mixed and moulded the resin to try and get the right "black colour". We even managed to get the texture to look like fabric. Making one at a time will take another couple of weeks to finish.
The wooden wall panels, CNC machined to fit exactly into the wall space, equally divided to the mm 4x4. He is staining to suit his taste.
I am also waiting for special fasteners to arrive from the USA, so when attached to the wall the screws will look like proper speaker cap head bolts in black.
Still some work to go but here are the results so far:
