Ok lads. I know no better place in the Uk to ask this question. Myself and a mate are about to start a dropshipping company. Firstly an on-line style and then who knows after. First up its going to be based in Ireland, so this may not apply here but the 1 question we have at the beginning is we have looked at UK wholesalers and wondering do we need to be established before we start buying ? or can we literately just buy now ? order 100 products say and just sell through our own field. We will be buying + vat so not trying to dodge taxes or the likes. We're in the process of registering as a partnership, buying company name from revenue etc but this takes time so just gathering as much info on Uk suppliers first. We have looked at china and the likes but the fear of been ripped off, delays in arrival etc kills it. maybe in the future but for now keep it closer to home is the key. So the basic question is can joe soap just buy from a wholesale company and do as I please

Any help at all is great

Yes and no is the simple answer.

Some wholesalers are happy to take orders over the internet/phone & don't give a monkeys & some will want some proof of who you are - even more so if you are looking for credit.

Some won't supply to online traders or people who sell on Ebay etc & again, some don't care. Do your research properly though - we used to use a wholesaler who started selling direct to the public on Ebay for much less than we wanted to sell for. Ultimately, they went bust but it's worth checking who your competition is.

You talk about dropshipping then about buying 100 products. I'm not sure the two go hand in hand even if as a dropshipper you want to keep a bit of a buffer in case of supply problems.

The trick with dropshipping is to find the wholesalers who are prepared to do it for you, and with enough margin to make it worth while.

If you're not dropshipping but just buying stock to then sell on you will need to take a close look at shipping costs as Eire is a foreign country from the rest of the UK as far as postal charges are concerned.
