Hi Does anyone have a telephone number for HMRC where you are not on hold for 20 minutes at a time.

Also has anyone complained to HMRC and received a decent level of service ?

Cheers

I have received some poor level of service from certain companies in the past but these Morons win hands down.

Absolutely. They've always apologised profusely when they get things wrong, refund promptly, and send round cards and flowers to make things right again. Couldn't hope for a better service from a nicer bunch of people.

Of course I jest. Their attitude is uniformly terrible and they're a load of incompetent, vindictive s with an inferiority complex a mile long who close ranks at the first sign of trouble. I would actually piss on them if they were on fire, but only so that I could set them on fire again, but this time stinking of piss as well.

Not my favourite organisation, as you might have guessed wink

I've had less than a handful of dealings with HMRC but I had to admit that each time they've been helpful and quick. I must be the luckiest human alive.

Very true, horrible and vindictive and without any sense of proportion. If you even make a small complaint, you will find the inquiry/matter widened and new people introduced, the one you complained about will look like Mary poppins compared to your new best friends
If you do complain, don't blink or back down or they'll be over you like a rash. I made a complaint and a schedule 36 notice, a FA 2008 office visit to check Statutory records ( unannounced), a simialr visit the same day at home, I claim a working from allowance and therefore they "thought" I might have records at home.
They issued me 2 off £300 fines for non compliance on the visits, I appealed internally and this was rejected, appealed to the Tribunal and HMRC then dropped the matter. On the schedule 36 notice, they had the info already.
A disgusting organisation populated by horrible bullies.

It's also my experience that HMRC are a bunch of s. I got investigated a few years back. Had an absolutely horrendous experience which ended up with me actually receiving a small refund at the end of it. All down to a glitch in their systems which meant I had two accounts and in theory should have received two tax returns; except one of the addresses was five years out of date.

Complain to your MP via email and Twitter if they have it. You won't get anywhere although you'll probably get a nice letter on headed house of commons paper about how seriously they take these issues and (delete as appropriate) it's the other lots fault/ it'll all change when we're in power/ blame the Daily Mail

Unfortunately bullying is becoming a more common trait in the civil service these days.

Had some dealings with HMRC and they've generally been ok. They did however try and charge me way over the odds for import tax which was reduced at appeal. I wonder how many other times they have tried this and the importer hasn't taken things further....

They tend become aggressive not just because of money, my experience was that the moment I refused to give them documents or questioned their right to such information, the response was totally disproportionate. The 1st time I clashed with them, I met the face to face ( upon advice of accountant), do not ever do this. They hate writing since they are accountable,

This is quite strange because I have similar experience of this myself.
what surprises me is the people that work for/at HMRC almost seem to behave as if the power of the institution has got to their head.

It's as if they think they are above all else allowed to do whatever the hell they want. Weird

They are absolute sts with no interest in listening to Anyone other than themselves. It has taken me over a year, nearer two, to prove them incompetent, useless, and economical with the facts. No apologies, No acceptance of any responsibility.....just silence.
